Hence I don't believe the story, would we lose out on deal because of just that?

Of course.

A) if we weren't prepared to pay for him we wouldn't bid

And

B) no club puts in their highest bid first.

It was probably a case of "let's try without the taxes first".

What exactly is this tax issue anyway? Why do we have to pay taxes ontop of our fee for Llorente but not for any other player? Surely that cost is included in the price.

Surely if we bid £26m his buy out and tax is 18% the deal comes £30.68m?

If that's the case then I'd expect another bid from us tomorrow then.

I'd imagine that Bilbao did this on purpose to scare of potential suitors.

Peanut has just said this in regards to the Llorente bid

Code:
Main reason is he's not interested in playing for us!

That tax law is crazy. Everything is against us it would seem.

Fascinating, if a little bizarre. So if they want to sell him, we have to give Atletico the clause value. But if we want him and they don't want to sell, we have to pay the clause +18%, but they STILL don't have to sell if they don't want to. And if we still want him, we have to pay the clause +44% (!) to Llorente directly so he can buy out his contract. But actually that's irrelevant too as we're not a Spanish club so basically Bilbao can do whatever the hell they want.

I'm beginning to despair of all of this.
