Defoe is an anachronism in the age of the 'all round centre forward'. Serves him right really for being a selfish little git and never putting in the work to improve his all round game.
While he does lack in many aspects of the game, Defoe has worked really hard to improve. This comes from somebody who doesn't like him in the least. But this a story that came out last fall about his work in the summer.
Sure that is just conditioning, but it is an important thing and something that too few footballers care for in the off-season. And while his passing still lacks, even I can't deny that his passing has gotten better over the years he's been here.
He is a git. And he is selfish. But his work off the pitch is actually commendable. It's just too bad it hasn't resulted in a smarter footballer, as his footballing intelligence might be his greatest weakness (thus the offside issue)
