I think we desperately need an experienced CB who can slot straight into the first team. I'd even look for an older, cheap quality CB who can come in and do a job for a couple years. In the past it has worked out well with Gallas and Naybet. I'm surprised we didn't go in for Lescott when we had the chance. Admittedly he isn't glamorous or a star signing but he could hold down the fort and be steady at the back for a couple seasons.

I like Dawson a lot, but I think he is really starting to struggle. Kaboul is good but nearly always injured for most of the year. Chirches is promising but injury prone and still unproven. Vertonghen is an obvious talent, but was poor last year and has his own injury problems. Milos Veljkovic has looked excellent in pre-season and I think Porch might be planning on using him quite a lot this season.

Yeah I get that, but also need to take into consideration the change in style under Pochettino can make a team susceptible. We need CBs who are very comfortable on the ball, with errors cut to a premium. My concern entirely resides from fact I can't be convinced Kaboul and Chiriches are going to be available for the majority of games. If that was assured I'd be fine with things as are tbh.
They also have to be mobile.

Well that's Lovren actually gone for 20m, we certainly aren't getting Schneiderlin for any less than that!

The only way we may get Schniederlin cheaper than 20 is if he's got a lot less time on his contract. I imagine Lovren had quite a few years left seeing as he only signed last season

Schniederlins contract expires in 2017. Lovrens contract with Southampton also expired in 2017.

To get him cheaper, we need Schneiderlin to kick up a fuss imo.

Otherwise it will definitely be £20m or more.

We do need that but I think it'll be £20m+ even with a fuss. Can't kick off much more emphatically than Lovren did afterall and Morgan is clearly a more crucial player to them. No way he goes for less now. I'm hoping that something like £22m might be the number to do it but even that could still be well out of our range.

Some unsettlingly close similarities to the Moutinho saga with this one.

Julian Green is not going to be better this season that Chadli/Townsend/Lennon, this has to be a buy for the future. He's played one sub appearance for Bayern's first team and one sub appearance for the US in the World Cup. He's not going to come into the Premier League and play right away. Would be shocked by that happening.

(And I love what his potential could be as a USMNT fan but he's not what we need right now)

So if Southampton say they are close to signing Lovrens replacement, shouldn't that be who we are looking at?
