This won't be a popular opinion but i'd take Eriksen back all day long. If the deal appealed to Levy and the signing appealed to Jose and the return appealed to Eriksen, then why not ? Every signing should be assessed the same way, i.e can this player do the things this team needs...and the answer is a fairly obviously Yes.

IMO You'd need a massive set of balls to return after the way he left, so IF he was prepared to do so, i'd have him down as a very brave man and the sort who'd then work hard to win the fans over again (the bloke is far from stupid, he knows the score). And to hand him a 4 year+ deal, Levy and Jose would have to be absolutely sure on his character as well. If they are, then i'm in.

Not too won over by the idea of Eriksen returning. I know his heart may not have fully been in it towards the backend of time with us, but he started to look physically worn out to me.
Don't know if the period under Poch may have taken a lot out of him but if we are considering a creative midfielder, I'd probably be looking elsewhere.

Suppose from Levy's point of view, a lot of it would probably come down to how favourable the terms of any potential deal would be for us and so more opportunistic in nature. Certainly don't see us making a big push for him.

Maybe a loan till the end of the season could make some sort of sense what with him knowing his surroundings and the league but with Bale and Gedson already with us, don't know if the rules would allow us to.

Once again, feel free to groundhog your opinions on Eriksen in his thread.

Interesting ITK confirming what we have heard and also what know ... i.e. these times are unique and with financial pressures everywhere anything could happen come Deadline day. This is certainly one time to have a lot of options open.

I wonder if some of these signings that we're apparently close to pulling the trigger on (particularly CB & CF) are somewhat contingent on qualification for EL Groups on Thursday. Qualifying obviously allows us to promise European football (additional chance at a trophy) but also extra revenue (to justify signings) and extra games (to justify deeper squad)?

I know sometimes it's difficult to seperate so here's a quick attempt to clarify. The posts I have left are OK in my opinion, but the ones that I deleted pretty much consist of gripes about how he was by the time he left, what he did, how he did it and how much of a **** you think he is. This stuff has all been done to death and is just not for this thread.

I can certainly see why we would consider bringing back Eriksen. I suspect Inter haven't even paid the full amount and we know there is a player in there definitely.

If he is going to return then there being no fans is ideal to concentrate on his game

I find the ITK super surprising. I just don’t get it actually. Leaving aside the fact that I seriously question where the funds come from, it just doesn’t make sense

I hear the arguments for Eriksen - sure, he’s a talented player

But he’s been average for ages. And who does he replace in the line up?

Not Lo Celso, and he’s not part of a front three. I’d argue we should try and make it work with Ndombele over re-signing him.

We’re clearly targeting a striker and a CB. For good reason.

If we’ve got another 30/40m burning a hole in our pocket then let’s get a shit hot DM, not Eriksen, as great as he was three years ago

Sorry but this is pointless.

The ITK has suggested we may get a creative midfielder (you know, like Eriksen) not a(nother) DM. We do desperately need more consistent creativity and a conversation with Inter is not surprising.

The pipe dream “I would buy...” stuff is not for this thread.

OK fine - I’m surprised and disappointed by the ITK as I don’t think it would be a good move

So everyone seems to think a deal for Eriksen returning would be us paying Inter but assuming Inter owe us money that would come off any agreement between the clubs? Now factor in we want the CB chap and Inter want way too much. I can see Levy going for a two for one deal where we cancel what's left of the Eriksen payments and pay the full price or near it for Skriniar. Of course what Eriksen wants is anyone's guess.

Very much doubt we'll have 30/40m to spend after a CB and ST are sorted. Any interest in Eriksen will most likely be Levy viewing it as an opportunistic deal, knowing Eriksen isn't fancied by Conte and Inter maybe looking to get rid.

Some take it or leave it low ball or loan offer (provided we were able to considering we already have Bale and Gedson on loan) at the death with maybe the hierarchy thinking a loan of a player who won't need time settling etc providing the manager another option until the next summer when we can look at a different permanent purchase of a creative midfielder.

Dragon:

Eriksen has come up twice , first with the Tanguy deal inter quoted us 40 and then again last week in the skriniar talks

there was a couple of days last week when it looked like dele may go then we would pull Eriksen trigger , as of today dele stays so no go is my understanding re Eriksen .
my personal opinion is if Eriksen wanted to come back and was motivated I’d take him , I also think levy could have a change of heart deadline day as he knows we are a gio injury from disaster .
we are in multiple conversations with inter
on all fronts do not expect any signings this weekend nothing is imminent
I'm in no way a Levy hater, but I think Dragon is giving him far too much credit here. We've been a Kane injury from disaster for 4 years and we're still waiting for Levy to bring in a capable deputy.

*sigh* no, we had 3 years of the 'designated' deputy not being used, with Son instead, and 4th year MP didn't seem to want a replacement for a player he didn't use. I wish people would stop saying this. In addition, we have a Kane injury every season now and it's rarely a disaster.

The Gio bit is more relevant as we literally have no other creative options it would seem. We are already covering other bases.

The massive gaping Eriksen-shaped hole in our midfield since he left?

Lo Celso is not an Eriksen replacement. And neither can Dele fill that gap. Jose knows it; Levy knows it.

And that's why there's ITK on us trying to fill that hole - perhaps even with the bloke who left that hole in the first place.

Tbf there's been a Modric shaped hole since Modric left, and Eriksen kind of filled it but not completely, so we don't need to just fill the Eriksen gap, we need to fill the gaps that existed around that from before.
It's going to be even more important in a counter-attacking team like Mourinho will probably set us up to be - we need that special player that can pick up the ball in our half and get it to the likes of Bale/Kane/Son as efficiently as possible. I don't know enough about European football to know who it is (or care about wondering), but I expect that's what he'll be looking for.

I think they amount to the same thing - someone who can take the ball in midfield and find the immediate, fast, incisive forward pass that Mourinho wants to set free our counterattack.

Eriksen (or a player like him) can do that. Eriksen as we knew him could also be the creative link in a side that dominates possession - a la Poch era.

I'm not advocating here either way. Just identifying what I think the gap is that the ITK indicates needs to be filled.
