I meant more I'm not entirely taken with him as a 20 million plus striker. Seems too much to me. But it's not my money so here's hoping if we get him I end up back peddling faster than Nick Clegg on a tuition policy!

Itk

Was at the meet and greet in Delaney's Hong Kong yesterday.. And getting my jersey signed by the "3 legends and 1 ex goalie"

Asked Freund "are we signing a striker?"

He looked at me in the eye and said "yeah very likely" and gave me a wink.

Asked Daveeed "will you manage us one day?"

Smiled and "I love to (or hope to) but Freund will be first" (can't rem exact words french accent and all)

He's about as good as we can get and in a position where we desperately need to strengthen. Is £26m for a 28 year old too much? Only time will tell, but if we have the money then there is nothing else that money could buy that would help us more.

The only problem is does Levy agree? The hesitation in signing him so far makes me think he doesn't.

Told Liverpool have made an imcreased bid for
Soldado around 27m. Was told were happy to pay release but went in with a low bid first for some reason?? Things are crazy mad ATM. So much info flying around it must be chaos for the clubs behind the scenes right now.

Thanks for sharing. (y)

You lads know the player has agreed terms with us and said we're the club he wants to join, as seems to be the case? Unlike Siggy last year, we clearly have more to offer, so I'm still confident that we'll close this one, but it'd be interesting to hear the Liverpool perception of what the player wants. I'm guessing you've accepted Suarez is off and this is spending his money? You'd hardly have Suarez, Sturridge, Borini AND Soldado, I'm guessing...?

Part of the reason we'll go so high is because he's actually got quite low wages, we've offered about 60k/wk reportedly. Any other top striker would take nearly double that, so over a 5 year deal we save substantial money (~10-15 million).

Totally agree, for £57k a week that is a great deal for the wages. It's the fact it's taking so long that worries me. Apart from some ITK saying it's done we've not heard anything official since Monday. Valencia don't seem to mind spilling everything to the press, so it looks like things have stalled.

Hope I'm wrong and behind the scenes Levy and co are ironing out the finer points with Valencia and Gards and Grey Fox are right. Just I'm nervous, with Liverpool allegedly sniffing about.

Similar situation with Berbatov wasn't it? We accepted a higher bid from City but Berba only wanted United. Eventually United paid up (with a lovely contribution to the foundation) and all parties got what they wanted - except City. I do hope that Liverpool are the "City" in this case.

The Marca quotes are all made up, as most of you suspect. Despicable behaviour in my view. However, Bale's camp have informed Levy that they do want to talk to Real Madrid or Man Utd, those two clubs specifically, if offers are made. I take this to be a negotiating strategy for the proposed contract extension rather than any sort of immediate threat. Time will tell.

Got nothing on Soldado other than he doesn't want to join Liverpool and is committed to us so hopefully we get that one done. Seems close if the jungle drums are anything to go by.

That was from Roger Morgan on SO.

Utd were far more appealing than City at the time though. Are we that much more appealing than Liverpool?

1 point off CL last year. Clear run to be the MAIN striker with only really Ade for competition. Living in London. European football. Playing with Bale, Paulinho, Sandro, Chadli, Dembele, Verts, Lloris. For me it's a rose-tinted no-brainier.

Saying that though ... Stewart Downing. Tough choice.

Why would you bid above his release clause?

I am going to explode from the stress. I've practically chained myself to the computer, and just keep refreshing the ITK pages on 3 different forums all week long.
I think I've officially lost it.

And there you have it. Salt of course, but if this isn't done VERY soon now we're going to lose out.
As BO, Stoof, and (apparently) Roger Morgan have said above, it's one thing to agree a fee with a club and another thing entirely for the player to agree to the move. Word is that Soldado wants to come here - which counts for quite a lot.

What it might do, however (although he probably doesn't need any encouragement on this score) is to harden the stance of the Valencia Chairman.

Based on anything apart from how many European Cups they've won, I'd say so. Wouldn't you?

I often think I should have put more thought into my username.
