None play defense

Defense isnt such a dark art...... you see what you try and do is stop the other team scoring....... thats common for most countries and transcends the language barriers........ clean sheet = good, opposition scores = bad

I'm really surprised by that. I honestly didn't think we'd be looking to get a LWF in this window.

Welbeck or Remy IMO.

Barry - I know you are a glass is half-empty kind of guy, but you should try to have a little more patience here.

I don't know what our plan-B is with Schneiderlin, it could be that we will wait until January, or it could be that we are trying to move some of the existing pieces before bringing in someone else, or it could be that plan-B is to go with the existing players. Just because Levy/Pochettino/Baldini are not out publicly talking about their plans, does not mean they are just winging it. Say what you will about those guys - but they have been very successful in their business, I trust that they have a plan.

As for Fazio v. Musacchio, it seems we were looking to bring in a starting CB to pair with Vertonghen. Musacchio was, and may still be, our first choice, we worked hard to make that happen. It might not happen - I suspect proposed deals fall apart far more often than they are consummated. Fazio looks to be our second choice. They are not exact matches, but both look like they could slot in nicely next to Vertonghen. I doubt either one wants to leave a top club in La Liga to come to Spurs and be a back-up at this stage of their careers - so I don't think we would have targeted both to come in a share time. I could be wrong though.

Bottom line, have faith in the team Barry. You'll be happier in the end.

Actually I tend to be glass half full type of guy although when you think about it if you are a glass half empty or a glass half full person you are both only holding a half glass and I'd prefer to be a glass full person

But glass half full is about where we are. As for Levy/Baldini/Pochettino and specifically Levy if he has been so successful in his planning, allowing that we added 7 new players last season and 8 the year before, then using that logic we really wouldn't need any strengthening player wise this summer. Come to that if he had been that successful in his business planning we wouldn't be on our 7th new manager in the last 10 years

Lets not kid ourselves that simply because we have changed manager yet again all our plans, transfer targets and existing squad are going to see this sudden metamorphosis into a team that has no faults or weaknesses brought about by flawless transfer dealings and coaching that sees a miraculous change of form in some that have never shown any improvement worth mentioning

It's nice to hope that we can improve, certainly each window we should be trying to but we don't always succeed, far too often it's been a case of a step or two forward that's offset by a step or two back.

I have high hopes for a few players but lets not kid ourselves that every signing is going to be perfect or that yet a well balanced team with a decent depth of quality in all positions because we are not

We shouldn't get too carried away, apart from the Ramos debacle we have been treading water around top four or five position since 2005/6 season so if we take that as our expected position we'll be happy enough, if we make third we'll be pleasantly surprised, but we won't be devastated if we don't, never mind making first or second.

I wish Poch every success but lets not get too carried away, he has a short managerial career so far, his record in Spain was one of early success followed by longer term failing, he showed good early results at Soton but didn't stick around to show he could maintain it and he doesn't have any noticeable transfer dealing track record. Lets hope with the benefit of more experience and a stronger team than his had he can achieve some tangible success but having to high an expectation can lead to a big disappointment

Bottom line is don't get too carried away in what you are hoping for because it could make you unhappy

Yes, I don't want Fazio. And I didn't berate anyone. I pointed out things several are assuming from Fazio without even seen him play. Several pointed out the strength and air dominance, and I have nothing to say about that because its right. But other things are just wrong. Why do I have to agree with every singing we make? I'm also not one of the persons who criticizes Levy for not supporting the manager. I honestly prefer we don't sign anyone instead of accumulating mediocre players. I also don't get this carte blanche to the manager that several seem to give. I didn't see this kind of acceptance to signings when Arry signed Saha and Nelsen.

To be honest you haven't berated anyone - and I've always respected your opinion on Spanish players. My point was if we sell Dawson and/or Kaboul we need a senior player to come in and play starter. Fazio I've never seen play. Ever. But at 27 he's the right age and experience for a defender and he seems to have come good last year.

Wrong thread for this but who do you think fits the bill (and don't say Dawson)

Welbeck or Remy IMO.

It's ten days before the window shuts.

Anything could happen right now. If the deal looks right, Levy will try and make it happen.
That's why Welbeck could occur: 23, English, not too expensive, big potential upside. Levy might not be in the market for anything in particular but he'll not want to leave a smart buy on the table. I said the same last year when we were maybe in for Eriksen; it had all the hallmarks: young, potentially top-class, contract running down, low fee. He can't not make a signing like that. We've ended up with imbalanced squads, too many players, too many players for certain positions, often because the deals were too good not to do.

Levy's view of the transfer market right now is the same as a teenager in the Steam sale; bargains are to be had, might as well fill up the hard drive.

Erm, last time I checked money tended to be a wee bit important when agreeing a transfer
