Not quite conclusive, but pretty hopeful Jason Burt article now online...

(see Paulinho thread)

Just expressing a wish/hope for some serious ITK tomorrow and I'll settle for signing Paulinho as a good start...
Mate, fuck the ITK (just this once! It is my one true love), there's a very reasonable chance that we could be heading to the OS for our fix.
[everything permitting of course]

Why have i seen some comments from people saying that Villa is going to the goons?

are there some links to this that i have not seen? Does not sound like a Wenger signing to me especially if he has Higuain

Even if all Paulinho progress is true, still think it will be very start of July before it's announced on OS.
Yeah, totally agree.

Both Sigurdsson and Vertonghen were 'done' for ages last year before it went official.
We all knew they were coming but it took forever to go official. The poor doubters suffered throughout.

£17million for Paulinho eh?!

Sounds a big commitment from us to be fair but his acquisition does make sense if we adopt a three man midfield alongside Dembele and Sandro plus it's flexible enough to relinquish Livermore, Huddlestone and maybe even Parker.

19:30 in Brazil, plenty of time to sign a bit of paper and then have dinner, no?

Would everyone be happy with Pauly and a striker, if that was it?

No.

Desperately need some more creativity/intelligence/nous/whatever-you-want-to-call-it in the team. If as seems likely we go 4-3-3 with a powerful midfield three then a wide forward in the vein of Mata/Silva (Bernard?) is as important in my opinion.

Then I'd want a left back.

And a back-up keeper that is similar in style to Lloris.

Don't we need 2 players for every position? 3 first choice CM's in Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho will need three backups, no? Therefore I'm not sure it's a good idea to sell Livermore, Hud and Parker in one go. Holtby will be able to play there I suppose, but beyond him we'd be looking at square pegs in round holes like Vert and Siggy.

Don't get me wrong - Parker is getting on a bit, and I don't rate Hud at all, nor Livermore actually. I'd quite like to get rid of them! However if AVB is serious about 4-3-3 we'll be needing more CM's not fewer!

I probably wouldn't sell Parker on the basis that his experience will be needed in a long arduous season but in theory, a central midfield contingent of Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, Holtby, Carroll and Parker is ample and flexible to either a 433 or 4231.

Oops I forgot about Carroll.

Yep those six would be ideal in my opinion. Sandro as the sitter with Parker back up to him and offers an experienced head + leadership. Dembele and Paulinho offer a bit of everything and then Holtby and Carroll a bit more cultured approach. Nice mix of options.
