Why is there excitement/relief in Poch signing a new deal. He has 3yrs remaining on his current deal.... If we as a club or supporters are afraid he'd walk away from his existing deal, why would he not walk away later from his new deal.

Two reasons really: First is a renewed commitment from Poch, lends confidence in his determination to continue the project. And, second, it would be more expensive for a team to buy out a longer, more expensive, contract.

He's a man that likes to honour contracts. If he's signing a new deal he must be very happy here which is in contrast to some of the recent media reports after his end of season comments.

Absolutely this!. Makes you wonder as to whether contracts are worth anything.

If he signs a new extended deal it will be harder for other clubs to try and take him, but also show a commitment to the fans, current players and any we go for that he is wanting to stay and might help then sign extentions/contract with us.

Its a genuine question Hercs. Wasnt meant in a snide way. I dont see the importance if the new deal and its signficance. I understand wanting to reward him with a new one. I get that.

Why would there be collective relief if i can put it that way.

Can I ask what happened to the blue outline for users with ITK status that we had last year? Made sifting through quicker and easier for things that didn’t make the RO.

Long time lurker please don’t ban me

I understand from the onset. The way our Daniel tie in contracts now, almost impossible to break it in your favour. What I will say, Poch is exceptionally happy ?

For me, its simple - Poch has laid out some minimum requirements he wants to see from the club, before he commits to a longer-term contract.

So, if he signs a long-term contract, that is a strong indication that the club is going in the direction Poch wants. (And, I think that is a direction that the majority of people here also want.)

Its an affirmation that the club is willing to invest in the project with the goal of kicking on from three consecutive top-4 finishes.

I'm getting goosebumps thinking about Poch being "exceptionally happy" and all the things that could be making him feel that way! ;)

Simple...because it demonstrates a continued commitment to the club when there have been questions of discontent in recent weeks.

Thanks Hercs. Poch seems to be a man of honour. I was never phased by his recent comments or took it as a threat to walk away. Based on his book he has a very good working relationship with the club. His always come across as part of the club as opposed to an employee. So I've never bought the bs line that his comments was sending a coded message to DL and as a result im not concerned whether he would sign a new deal or not.

As usual thanks for sharing

Okay put from that perspective i get it. Why you would be relieved per se. Makes sense.

I hope we do invest in some serious talent and genuinely compete for trophies. I dont want us losing players like Eriksen/Kane the following season because we aren't matching their ambitions.

Let's hope he's still exceptionally happy when the season starts. Then we will see how much he has been backed.
I'll be mightily relieved once he signs but I hope Levy holds up his end of the bargain.

Fantastic news that Poch is going to be backed financially..it's needed..we can't keep asking same players to run themselves into ground, it really told towards tail-end of this season, players looked jaded.. squad needs freshening up & Poch needed to be backed..

Really important summer..we're so close to having a title winning team & to make that next step it needs money spent..don't mind over next couple seasons we only bring in 1 or 2 & tighten belts.. this summer though we have to invest or team really would of been in danger of falling apart..
