I’m amazed that no big club in Europe outside PL is interested in him at what would be a very reasonable price for a world class defender in his 20s
Would be in the euro clubs best interest to wait til pl window closes i think. Gotta be brave

Do you think the club intentionally buy "fillers"? It's easy to point out with hindsight players that didn't make the grade, but when they were bought at the time they were bought with the best intention to add value to the playing squad.

Disagree they were mostly last minute and have consistently failed to improve the squad. If we had acquired them early in the window your argument might hang together.

Well at least the Martial chapter is closed and we can move on. From the beginning it felt very optimistic for us to try and strong arm United into making Martial available to us if they wanted Toby.

We tried, but failed and I really I am not surprised by it, United after all one of the Top 3 financially powerhouses in the world football. We are just not close to that sort of level.

Martial off the menu!

Oh well, you know football. Not new to us is it?
Shame about Martial, really thought we'd get him considering the situation with Toby. Only very few top versatile forwards we could realistically get now..

Thanks Herc. I wonder if there was options in Martial’s position or was he a one off pursuit.

Hope the Toby politics are in respect of him potentially staying now Martial is pretty much confirmed to be off. Need to screw Utd hard if they shut the door on Martial, or even better tell them to do one too.

Always held hope it made too much sense for all parties not to happen (with the recent Sanchez/Mkhi deal fresh in the mind).

Guessing he's either signing a new deal or going to Chelsea instead.

I don’t know in what respect ITKs were referring to when stating Poch is being backed but so far it doesn’t appear to be regarding getting transfers over the line

Donald Trump: "I said Poch was being backed. What I meant was Poch was not being backed. I hope that clarifies things."

In all honesty I think Poch meant more than the club handing out new contracts when saying he wants us to be brave.

If we've gone for Martial and not succeeded you can't really blame the club at all. He's the kind of player we should be targeting so it's good to see the club want to take that next step in doing so. He'd have smashed our transfer record

God damn it.

Thought , for some reason, we were going to come through on one of our big name links for once. But not the end of the world if we have real, quality back up plans.

If we sell them Toby however, then I can understand anger coming to the surface though.

Did you really think in your heart of hearts it was going to be any different? We will sell Toby to them if they stump up enough cash, whether they deal with us on Martial or not.

This window is the same as any other Spurs one. Encouraging noises, giving rise to collective outpourings from bi polar folk who decide we are now going to win the league, followed by suicidal tendencies and then the realisation that we're dragging our heels squeezing every last penny from a bankrupt club like a vulture circling a carcass. Throw in a complicated "political" situation regarding one of our key players and it's business as usual.

This will probably be then followed by the same bi polar folk wanking themselves into a coma after we finally sign someone....anyone in fact, even if it's a player who was deemed not good enough a couple of weeks ago.

I'll be stunned if we don't sign Grealish and at least one other, but I don't have much confidence that if Toby and Dembele leave we will be in a better position squad wise than we were last season.

Maybe off the menu, maybe not. Still 3 weeks to go. Things change. Really all depends on how much they really want Toby this year. They sure as hell will want a CH - whether Toby is their only option will be interesting. Posturing all round.

Edit - unless Martial himself has stated he is 100% staying

In terms of Martial - I hope not. I would love to have gotten Martial in - but I have been wondering when/if Spurs would take control of negotiations and set a firm deadline. We can't afford for this to drag out until August 9. If we have other options, then we need to find out if United will sell or not - and if not, move on, and don't look back.
