Did one of the ITKs not suggest that player prices were actually expected to be cheaper this month than in the summer? If that's the case (whether because of the impending TV deal or the World Cup) then it surprises me that we've not been more proactive this window, even though historically January is quiet for us.

Lucas Moura seems to me to be the most likely signing this month that could actually make a difference for us, but Herc is suggesting it's difficult, and he's been heavily linked elsewhere today in the media too.

I'd be interested to know what's deemed 'crazy' money for Sessegnon. It seems that everyone in the football world is convinced he's going to make it, so less risk than even a more established foreign star like Malcom?

However bad we think he is If we were to get shot of Sissoko we would have to bring in a signing this window.

If he goes and we can’t get a signing this month, then we should get Onomah back for the rest of the season.

I was thinking that, but if we are talking about a big name player then it's only going to be a player from the big three. Not that there aren't very good players who play elsewhere but no one has a big enough status to qualify really. Not going to get into guessing games here but I think there are only a small handful of players from those three that would potentially be for sale all of which have been publicised to some degree.
One can google "top 10 la liga centre midfielders" to get an idea...

Thanks Hercs, JJ, Trix and the other ITKs for the bits of valuable and interesting stuff.

Always look forward to your posts to keep the optimism going. (y)

Can't help but feel we do need a new face in the squad this month, just to freshen things up a little.

To be honest I think we've needed a bit of freshness and new energy for a few windows now, not just this January. No matter how talented your team is, over time it will become a bit stale without an injection of new blood.

Not Berkeley because we have better options. It’s the hope...

Every top team strengthening and then there's us. It's tiring being a spurs fan seeing rivals bring in world class players then there's us just aiming for cheap youngsters. We really need to bring in a world class player or two now to put pressure on the likes of alli and Eriksen etc.
Cheers for the info though Hercules, least it sounds like levy and Co aren't sat around doing F All.

2 World Class players? Liverpool just sold Coutinho (not as productive as Eriksen) for 150 million. United just signed Sanchez for wages even City blinked at.

Have you got a spare 300 million pounds going because Tottenham Hotspur, building the best stadium in the country, sure don't.

Fuck's sake. We are building a future - not mortgaging it. The only way we could afford the pipe dreams you're demanding is if we sold our souls to Oil Slavers in which case you can count this Spurs fan out.

The agent power especially has escalated to a ridiculous proportion recently me thinks.. Is there a cap or something of a ruling that restrict some of their participation or commission? If not this sport is gonna become an entertainment industry very soon!

Agree, but more worrying is that if it does become just an entertainment industry, I feel that it will become totally corrupt and only a few 'certain' clubs will be allowed to 'win' trophies because of commercial interests.

After seeing Spurs win just one league cup, and an FA Cup I was too young to remember, in my lifetime, I would take a sheikh like take over.

I want to see Spurs win major trophies and it isn't going to happen with the amount we spend on transfers and wages, not consistently anyway.

Whilst it would be nice to do it organically, it's going to take another decade at least of consistently getting the small details (signings, scouting) right to enables us to take that step up. But I can't see it.

If we can't win major trophies when we have had the fortune to have a potential GOAT in Kane come through our academy, we will never do it.

It's hard not to feel we may have hit our ceiling. When we don't pay the going rate to buy prime world class players we will always be likely to miss out against that clubs that do.

So I would swap places with City in an instant. Who cares if we buy a title, all our rivals are trying to do that anyway.

And what good is that without any silverware to show for it?

It's all well and good having a couple of good seasons coming 2nd and 3rd, but what good is that when you win no trophies then drop out of the top 4 the next season?

You got to be ambitious in the market, all well and good taking chances on these youngsters but where's the experienced signings to go with them, the ones that no what it takes to win a cup, win the league etc?

Liverpool will massively improve Liverpool and they will challenge us all the way. The fact he cost alot doesn't mean shit.

Granted Arsenal has lost quality but they have replaced with quality. And if they manage to sign Aubameyang....well.

Chelsea also look close to signing Dzeko along with another 20m FB. That strengthens them hugely.

Sanchez will be mega for Utd. He'll win them shit.

You can spin it all you like. I get it's difficult but we are standing still.

@tiger666

What's with the spam fella?

I can't be any clearer than I have been in the last few posts.

Silverware at any price is not a price I want to pay. When you say "ambitious" what you mean is becoming part of the closed system whereby a tiny elite, funded by the very worst of human scum, control all avenues for success.

No thank you.

I'm happy for Spurs to keep doing what they do. But if you want to fund silverware by human blood I'll bring you a Filipino migrant worker from Dubai and you can personally shoot them in the face for a shiny trophy.

Not at all what I mean.
My point is you can't bring success without spending the money. Leicester had one fluke season now look at them.

We need proven players, as well as the potential stars, one's for the future. We cant rely solely on young upcoming players alone, don't need to spend 200/300m to compete, just one or two players that are already stars, to keep us competing with the strong teams.

People ought to be looking at their posts now and asking themselves is it really for this thread?

You could delete it, self preservation demands it. But its up to you. I have a few things to do but I'll be back in about a half hour and we'll see.
