Wiki says:

conditio sine qua non (plural: condiciones sine quibus non) is an indispensable and essential action, condition, or ingredient.

So basically the club think more signings are essential. Promises to Bale?
Nice detective work. Or cou
It means the 'effective cause of a given event', so we're spending money as a result of something happening. Maybe they finally found the log in code for the overdraft, maybe Levy got his cataracts done and has seen the struggles on the pitch finally or maybe something is happening with ENIC as hinted at. Don't know and won't guess but good to know the squad is getting the overhaul it has needed.
Either way whatever it is... sign them Daniel... sign them all!!!

No but seriously I wonder if it could be a takeover and that is why that Trevor Birch guy got hired, surely it has to be either that or a stadium naming rights/sponsorship deal as no other reasons could really inject cash into the club, also strange if the wording involves surprising as a naming rights deal would be a bit of a shock as no real media leaks about it but wouldn't be surprising as the stadium needs to be named eventually, a takeover would be surprising though... intriguing.

I read the definition as ""without which [there is] nothing" - i.e. without a big investment Kane is gone
Could also be that Kane has gone to Levy's office and said if we don't win something or seriously look like challenging this season then i'm off next summer but would that really be enough for Levy to start going crazy in the TM?

Yes, but is that new information? I think many of us think that so no real surprise - however you may well be correct and H has made it fairly explicit it'll take more that Bale and a new left back to convince him to stay?

Speculating as to the many "surprising reasons" isn't really for this thread though. Especially when I expect a few of you will want to see a little igi pop up without having to wade through 14,000 posts.

Oh it might be because DL switched to Sensodyne and now his teeth don't hurt so he can buy players.

If you take a step back and evaluate events of the last 8 month through the lens of the last 2-weeks then there is a strong indication that something is bubbling. I actually think the Alex Morgan signing might be the most telling. A very high profile, PR friendly, US-centric action, timed exactly with the high of the All Or Nothing viewership and exposure. Add the NFL link and I can't help but suspect something from across the pond is coming. Stadium naming rights is the obvious one, but a buy-in (rather than buy-out) might also be on the cards. The impending injection of revenue might have influenced a more ambitious investment in the squad, with the high-profile capture of Bale being the spearhead. All conjecture of course but maybe a compelling argument?

That's harsh. If it's still going on after 20 pages, and people are just repeating guesses, then fair play. But if an interesting and very unusual piece of ITK crops up in the Daily ITK Discussion thread, you have to expect a bit of discussion around it.

Anyone else worried about the lack of ITK? It would be nice to know if A&C had his cornflakes dry this morning :nailbiting:

For those (like me) who had to google the term:

"In legal matters, "but-for", "sine qua non", causa sine qua non, or "cause-in-fact" causation, or condicio sine qua non, is a circumstance in which a certain act is a material cause of a certain injury or wrongdoing, without which the injury would not have occurred"

Nope, I'm still none the wiser

I assume it means that we still need more signings (at the very least a striker) because otherwise the signings we've already made won't make the difference we need. "Without which, nothing."

Prof on COYS gave a thumbs up to the following definition

"A cause without which the thing would not have happened"

He also said it's not about promises made to GB or JM, it's not because someone has made a transfer request or because a key player is being sold.

He then said someone had guessed correctly, but "perhaps not" someone who guessed it was ENIC selling up or stadium naming rights.

Other suggestions were that Trevor Birch has secured outside investment or the less exciting Levy seeing the Everton defeat and hearing the criticism from fans and deciding to act.

I wouldn't have thought naming rights would be enough by themselves for this amount of spending? So maybe it's them along with a buy in?

My boss just sent an email saying that she had to log off early to take care of a family matter and that she was cancelling all meetings.

I was so excited I damn near spiked my mouse.

No work today, boys!
Is she a spurs fan too ? Sounds like a good excuse to get out of work ?

That's maybe what flies in the ComfortablyNumb Community ITK forum, but not this one sunshine!

Knowing Spurs, by which I mean Levy, the event is probably an incoming windfall in the form of a player sale. Got to balance them books.
Whilst that is probably the most likely event there is one thing that puts the shitters up Levy more and that's losing potential investments and backers.

If the club dropped further behind and ended up finishing lower than 6th and with an absolute mountain to climb to get back into CL we wouldn't be as an attractive proposition. Player pull, sponsors, fan base would all stagnate or diminish. Yes, the stadium would bring in funds but the CL money allows us to really compete.

We've seen him do this once before in 2008/09, when we faced relegation and looked to be in deep trouble he gave Redknapp a bit of an open wallet.

Let's hope that's what we are seeing here. Because last Sunday should have sent alarm bells throughout the whole club.

i had this awful feeling we was suddenly spending money because we had agreed to Sell Kane before deadline day... but that new ITK has eased me fears a little.

Yeah, that's a good point, particularly when you consider that we still need to sell the naming rights at some point.
