New Jason Burt article:

Notes:

-Baldini imminent
-Levy still holds pursestrings
-Andre loyal and happy
-Paulinho offer imminent
-Villa still keen to join

PSG are believed to have offered Villas-Boas a three-year contract, which would have placed him among the three highest-paid managers in world football, as well as unlimited transfers funds.
Baldini’s appointment, a deal that was agreed earlier this week and will be announced imminently, has also helped persuade Villas-Boas to stay as he has a strong relationship with the Italian, who recently left Roma and is regarded as one of the best football administrators in Europe.
Villas-Boas has been urging Spurs to recruit Baldini since he arrived at the club and chairman Daniel Levy has always liked the European model of a head coach and director of football. It remains to be seen how much control over transfers Levy now cedes in the new set-up.
Villas-Boas will now hope that Spurs push ahead with strengthening their squad so that they can challenge for honours next season and that ambition has also made him decide to stay.
According to sources close to Villas-Boas he is extremely grateful to Spurs and Levy for the opportunity they gave him last summer, after he was sacked by Chelsea after only a few months, and does not want to be regarded as a coach who changes clubs every season. He does want to show loyalty to Spurs where he has two more years left on his current deal and where he is settled and happy.
Villas-Boas is, nevertheless, extremely keen for the club to back his judgment in the transfer market having missed out on a series of first-choice targets including Joao Moutinho, Oscar, Willian and Leandro Damiao despite deals appearing to be in place.
The head coach is therefore hoping to make the Brazilian international Paulinho his first signing of what could be an exciting summer of transfer activity for Spurs.
Talks have taken place with Paulinho’s club, Corinthians, and an official offer is expected soon of at least £15 million for the 24-year-old box-to-box midfielder who is currently starring in Brazil’s Confederations Cup campaign.
Villas-Boas is also keen to improve Spurs’ forward line and has held discussions over acquiring David Villa from Barcelona. It is understood that the 31-year-old Spanish international would like to come to the Premier League and is enthusiastic about joining Spurs.

I'd be quite happy if he tweeted in English tbh.

Edit: Referring to earlier posts obviously.

Whats to dislike about that Karibyid??

His earlier tweets were confusing to say the least. They led to a mass debate on here as to exactly what he meant. That could have been avoided couldn't it if he made it clear what he was trying to put across in the first place.

Do you and stov not agree?

Interesting artical, you can't get more positive then that.... Although to really mount a challenge Levy better be ordering a new check book. Dispointed there is no mention of Bernard but that's a minor gripe in an otherwise stamens of intent artical.

haha just posted that in the AVB to PSG thread with similar bolding!

To which I responded & did something very similar too. Add the fact that it's a Jason Burt article, it couldn't be much more definitive. As I said in my response in the other thread, "According to sources close to Villas-Boas ".... It's him (Jason Burt) isn't it!! :sneaky:

It's a shame if people have been bashing JJ today. He's always given good info and seems a reallly decent chap.

Maybe people are still just finding ways to hate on Jenas! :) JJ, update the picture mate!

Any suggestions for a replacement photo?

That Jason Burt article makes it sound like AVB has rung him this afternoon and said: "Cheers JB, I got a 'war chest' just like I wanted. You can stop the PSG stuff now. There's a good lad. Here's a bit of ITK on Paulinho and Villa as a thank you!'

:)

Bringing on guys like Villa and Bernard would go a long way to make up for a lack of general creativity from a midfield 3 of Dembele/Sandro/Paulinho.

We'd have the ability to dominate possession and the midfield in general, but having a guy like Villa up top would equate to having a striker that can take advantage of the chances created. We had one of the best squads in terms of creating chances. If we can get better finishers up top, we could see a substantial spike in goals scored.

Paulinho/Villa could also bring in about an additional 15-20 goals between the two of them.

Guardian also saying that avb will stay and that capello will go to psg.

Things are changing, players and managers not wanting to leave, let us build on this and do something special next season.

Paulinho, Villa, a midfield playmaker, and maybe an extra defender and we'd be set.

Yes being offensive is out of order however I am surprised JJ being so negative towards Baldini before he has even started give him a chance.

My reading of it is that JJ himself is not necessarily being negative towards Baldini, just reporting what some (one) of his sources within the club think / feel. As he later said (paraphrase): "it's like any company, people whinge and moan". Perhaps one of his sources feels threatened by Baldini / the new structure and is 'white-anting' Baldini to try strengthen his position, etc. Office politics - people say things about others all the time in order to strengthen their own personal position yet they often still find a way of working together and achieving the overall company objectives. Personality conflicts happen all the time.

Why do we think our beloved club would be any different, just because we the fans tend to have this highly romanticised vision of it? Just because we're all passionate about Spurs and would like to believe we'd all work for peanuts for the honour of the greater good, doesn't mean that's what would actually happen in reality.

My gut feeling is we will get Paulinho & probably be priced out of Bernard. If suppose BVB get Bernard, I hope we go for Eriksen.

I personally rate him higher than Bernard , for simple reason that I have not seen much of Bernard.

Also I find it quite surprising that ITKs on the much needed striker position is almost nothing in past week.

While we are perinially linked with 'He who must not be named' - ITK silence in past week is almost like we are waiting for players to finish their international commitments.

They may all be alpha males for whom compromise is a dirty word. but none of them is employed as a technical co-ordinator.
Tim Sherwood is described in the Official Tottenham Hotspur Handbook for 2012-13, which came out in around December 2012, as Head of Football Development. If order of potted biographies counts for anything he is 7th, after AVB, Steffen Freund, Jose Mario Rocha. Luis Martins, Tony Parks and Daniel Sousa. His job description is described as follows: "took on the role of Head of Football Development at the start of this season, having joined us on a full-time coaching basis in April 2010 as Technical Co-ordinator. His responsibilities focus on managing and co-ordinating player development across all our squads, including the supervision and monitoring of loan placements, technical coaching and physical improvement."
It follows from this that he is in no way a technical director in the sense of dealing with the acquisition of players, though he may be on the celebrated but unofficial "transfer committee". His job is to provide future first team stalwarts and develop players even when they are first team squad members but not regulars, like Danny Rose, Tom Carroll, Harry Kane etc, and Naughton and Walker in the past; those players appearing in the first team on occasion, but more often in the under-21's or on loan. it is a player development role. So apart from personality conflicts there should be no reason for TS's nose to be put out of joint by Baldini's arrival.
I accept some ITK's call him DL's right hand man, but frankly I have always taken that with a pinch of salt. I detect an agenda of "bigging up" TS beyond his actual role, for whatever reason. If it is the truth then one wonders why he hasn't been officially promoted again, given Levy's predilection for accurate titles e.g Darren Eales, not Secretary, but "Head of Football Administration", distinguishing him both from the Company Secretary and the Club Secretary, roles filled by different people.

Wasn't there also some talk that TS didn't have a sufficient contacts to make him DOF??? There's no doubt that he has the ability to judge/assess potential signings as an ex-pro otherwise he wouldn't have been technical co-ordinator or head of football development. Doesn't stop him having sour grapes though that he should be the DOF - in his own onions of course.

Seems like these 3 different sources either don't like Baldini because it affects their role or someone close to them within the club. Or, they've just jumped on the bandwagon regarding Baldinis honest assessment on his 2nd term at Roma and the reason why he left.

To be honest, I found him being honest as a good thing, and a sign that he isnt void from crticism and happy to put his hands up unlike others. Even though deep down everyone knows that Romas failures come from other areas and not just pointed towards Baldini.

doesn't matter which business someone eventually has to put their hands up to take the blame. Seems to me that Baldini took that oppotunity to get out. Doesn't mean he's blameless, just brave enough to admit mistakes. We can all learn a lesson from that no doubt.:cautious:

I've been strangely calm so far in this window...just sitting back and enjoying all the ups and downs, and looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds.

I think my girlfriend must be slipping something into my drink.

Yeah, it's SALT - works for her & ITK;)
