The thing is. Utd Chelsea and Arsenal are all on an upward trajectory at the moment and we're not. People laughed when I said 'don't write Utd off for a top 4 place' just a few weeks back as if it was a ridiculous thing to say, but stuff changes in the blink of an eye with a possible 6 point swing every week.

How are Chelsea & arsenal on an upward trajectory compared to us??

6 games ago (17 Dec) we were clear by 2 points and 5 points respectively.
10 games ago (1 Dec) it was 2 and 3.

It’s now 4 and 7.

And United have only picked up slightly, they were 8 points behind (1 Dec) they’re now 7.

This is where there is going to be a domino effect on last summer. Last summer, we needed 2 CMs, a LB and a backup striker. Now this summer, we can add RB to that list, and potentially CB & AM with the Toby & Eriksen contract issues. Does anyone really think we're going to replace/add 6 first team players?
Sometimes I wonder if the club's ultimate aim is to cease inward transfers altogether, except for extraordinary circumstances, and rely solely upon academy prospects. They're certainly giving that impression.

For those who don't know, I live in Edinburgh and have a Season Ticket at Hibs. My pal is ITK at Hibs.

Marc Pugh was going to sign for Hibs on loan up until yesterday when at the last minute Hull have come in. They hadn't shown any interest whatsover before then

Pugh is a winger as is Jarrod Bowen and it's led me to wonder if their last minute intervention had anything to do with Bowen leaving?

Placing all your eggs in a summer basket, when all selling teams will be aware we desperately need signings, is a very risky/stupid strategy for someone supposed to be good at business. Would be very surprised if it didn't end in tears.

Absolutely, spot on. Wonder what basket we were using when we didn’t bother buying anyone last summer and so far this January. It’s a bizarre way to run a football club

We’re gonna have looooooooadsa money.

Better luck next time doesn’t stretch that far though. I agree we shouldn’t panic buy but surely there are long-term targets we have approached? I honestly can’t believe the disparity of Poch’s targets and what we can offer/achieve.

The whole transfer saga just doesn’t stack up. It’s all to easy to say we can’t get the players Poch wants as he’s the one person at the club whom is loved more than anyone else and he’s therefore the one person who’s judgement is rarely questioned.

The issue I have and it’s what points to Poch being used as an excuse is that we’ve a club that on paper looks incredibly inviting and appealing. Yet despite our appeal we’ve so far been incapable of finding a stadium sponsor, look set to lose 2 of our best players in the summer and have failed miserably in the transfer window since Jan 2018 and want over the odds for our dross.

You need to build an empire, not expect to dine at the top table just because you’ve laid good foundations. We’re coming across as an all or nothing club... the years of building the foundations will be all for nothing if we don’t become realistic with both the amount of money we want from a sponsorship deal, the level of players we can feasibly attract and the money we want for those we want to get rid of. To succeed in business and football you need evolve or you get left behind.

We are nine behind the leaders though
3 quality signings should be enough to compete with them better next season
Need more than a few. Say we got Werner, great, but we still have trippier giving away goals like nothing. LB, RB, CM, ST are areas we need to improve on
We already have 3 right backs so dont be silly.

We're 3rd in the table having made no signings. We clearly dont need wholesale changes.

The whole transfer saga at our club is a mess.... not sure why we bother with scouts.

That would require spending smartly though which we seem incapable of doing

We don’t have any eggs let alone a basket. We’ll purchase both of these items only if we sell a few players in the summer. Much like last summer everything we do is entirely based on sales.
If we sell Eriksen and Toby I can see us buying a fair few players, much like the Bale summer. If not then I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t buy anyone again in the summer.

If Poch can't get what he wants or anything like it the most likely scenario is he'll go where he can & who can blame him.

What the fuck has next season got to do with it as you have no clue as to how the other clubs will upgrade!

We are 3rd today but the season is not over and we have hurdles in the way!

We don't need any changes to the system, just a change in personal to ensure that they can deliver what Poch wants. Based on the ITK thus far it does not appear that the club have found anyone that Poch wants and Poch does not what has been offered.

Let's just get this season over with first!

Problem is with Eriksen’s contract running down and Toby’s clause, we probably won’t get much more than 100-120 million combined. That MIGHT allow us to replace them and them alone with similar quality. With the way prices are rising however, it’s very doubtful we get more than two, maybe three with that amount.

Now if we want to fill more spots with that cash, we are probably going to have to buy lower priced prospects rather than players that will immediately replace them, and then the quality of the team goes down.
