I like how we just assume Brazilian equals Jackpot. Lot's of great Brazilian players, but we've done a fairly poor job of recruiting them to date.

Rodrigo Defendi =
Gilberto = :banghead:
Gomes = :nailbiting:
dos Santos (born but not naturalized) = :poop:

and finally we got it right with Sandro. To be fair, Gilberto was old, Gomes had one great year and then turned our stomachs into knots and dos Santos (both the Mexican and Brazilian halves of him) should have been better.

Hopefully it just gets better and better from Sandro on. But history tells me to be cautious. Optimistic, but very cautious.

I would love a little coterie of quality Brazilians at the club - Sandro, Paulinho, Bernard, Leandro. Would be wicked. Great thing is Sandro is the ideal player to settle them all in, show them London, and make sure they feed off his infectious attitude in training.

Yup a Jason Burt Paulinho story?

That has got me very excited.

We could be on a winner here, Trig.

This 'Jason Burt is close with AVB' line has been repeated all season. Anyone know who actually said this? Seems to have just been picked up upon and ran with.

Any actual ITK's said anything about him?

EDIT: Right, i've had a quick search, this is what JJ's said about Burt:

Jason Burt at the Telegraph is getting a lot of scoops and info lately......hmmm #mateswithAVB?

It seems to be more a question than a statement and it looks like its been accepted as the truth.

I am starting to get slightly excited at the potential signings....

If we sign paulinho, Bernard, Damiao and villa we are in an unbelievable position to challenge for the title!!! but only if we keep our boy bale!!!

now i know that signing these four maybe me getting a little ahead of myself!! BUT what would it really cost us??
Paulinho - 12-14mil
Bernard - 12-14 mil
Damiao - 12-16 mil
D. Villa - 8-10 mil

Total = 44-54 mil

yes alot of money and of course the wages also!!

but say we sell (or have let go).....

Gallas - high wages
Gomes - high wages
Bentley - high wages
jenas - medium wages
parker - medium wages
Adebayor - V High wages
livermore - low wages
Hudd - low wages
BAE - medium wages

then these wages alone along with the new TV money will cover the cost and wages of these 4 additions!!

Also with the club paying out these fees ect on the three brazilians they will all have a high sell on fee should be decide to cash in or potentially upgrade in the future!!

now people question the point in signing D. Villa especially if we were to sign the 3 brazilians. well...... what better person to have as a mentor to three attacking (paulinho is kind of attacking/box to box) than a spanish/European/World cup winner than villa who would also not have a problem with the language either!! but not only this, the lad can still play and would be an amazing addition to the team/squad!! while also adding that all important winning mentality

Personally I think our kit is a bit dated, we should change to yellow and blue.
Anyway changing the subject completely, these Brazilians.........

I would be happy if we bought Paulinho, Bernard and Leandro. I don't think we need more than that.

Even though Paulinho is not the most creative I can see why AVB wants him as he fits his philosophy of having midfielders who are dynamic. I think it will definitely spell the end of Livermore/Hudd though.

I think it has been mentioned in the press a fee times - check this out for confirmation http://www.talksport.co.uk/radio/kickoff/120710/jason-burt-why-avb-will-get-it-right-spurs-176325.

From tracking JB's comments on Spurs for the past year, I'd say he's one of the best when it comes to AVB/Spurs info.

Get a grip man! Our squad will still have nowhere near the depth of Man U, Man City or Chelsea.

Up until the bolded part I could follow. Not sure I believed you in everything, but at least defensible. I am unaware of Villa's ability to speak Portuguese though. And while no doubt Spanish is similar, that bolded bit is where the story got a bit silly for me.

Edit -- Curses, Rawhide was quicker.

Burt's relationship with AVB has been spoken of fairly openly both when he has been on Sunday Supplement and in those Life's a Pitch video thingy's. The link One only need look at his twitter to see that he speaks of AVB a lot.

I also witness the accuracy of his stories from last Summer as evidence that he's more reliable when it comes to Tottenham related transfer news than just about any other British journalist at present.

Edit: I'd also note that Burt's link to AVB has been known of since he was at Chelsea. Some of us were speaking of it on here before JJ made that comment.

I'll freely admit that I've been promoting the Andre and Jason Burt link ever since he arrived. It just seemed to be a very obvious source of ITKbut because it wasn't hidden behind a forum pseudonym, some people didn't notice or believe in it.
Supposedly they became friendly when he was at Chelsea and stayed in touch. As others have stated, his articles are consistently accurate and often seem to promote our coach's point of view.

Ah ok. That's good. It just seemed to be accepted by everyone and I wasn't sure if there was any actual substance to it. Cheers.

There is an irony here that you've searched a database of anonymous internet messengers to check the veracity of an openly employed journalist.

:)

Well Adrian Durham is an openly employed journalist, doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about.

I trust the info of some of the ITK's on here far more than the majority of journalists.

I wasn't doubting JB anyway, was just trying to find out who said that he was 'close with AVB'.

When considering the cost of the players remember also Grey Fox's ITK (update 25) where he said that a substantial "war chest" had been agreed and that we would have to spend big just to keep pace with the other top clubs.

Jason Burt appears to have said he's close with AVB. That's a bit of a clincher. ;)

There's a video on youtube entitled "Spurs did more business this summer than AVB expected" in which Jason Burt openly agrees that he knows AVB well (around the 2 minute mark).
