No and that wasn’t the point I was making (in fact my post immediately above the one you replied to makes clear I think we are still in for a winger).

The ITK you were responding to said ‘getting one of the top few names on our list was more difficult than expected’. Having 2-3 names that all proved hard is completely plausible - Neto as already discussed, Nico Williams was probably on that list then was brilliant at the euros etc.

There are still 2 weeks to go and WLB has indicated the Prof ITK may well be wrong. Stop spiralling and see what actually happens before you decide it’s a shit window
I have no problem with missing out on our top targets, that happens.

Our data led scouting should give us a desired list to counter that sometimes.

My problem is the ‘difficult’ excuse every window and always leaving holes in the squad.
We identified a winger as top priority, we haven’t signed one, that’s a failure.

Sometimes we have to go out of our own way to get the biggest needs of our team sorted.

Have I had a head injury and been in a coma for two weeks? It’s either that or the fucking window hasn’t even closed yet. And that’s before we even bother with your moaning that all windows are the same, when we’ve clearly been backing the manager for a while.

Didn't Lange sign Bailey and Diaby for Villa?

Those were players we thought might be out of our reach let alone theirs.

I agree it doesn't look good but there's still time.

It's not a failure until it is.

There's still business to be done by all clubs. It's not as if this is the first window, or even the tenth, where 90% of everyone's business gets done in the last few weeks of a window. It's like this every window and for almost everyone. It's just how the window system forces clubs to act to extract the best value in their transfers. I suppose with the happy(?) side effect of whipping up an absolute frenzy in fanbases that can be monetised for engagement.

The absolute state of some of the posts in this thread 😅🤦🏼‍♂️🤯

Just chill out!!!! I actually think the new recruitment team are doing a wonderful job. And yes, it would have been lovely to have all our business done already but it rarely happens like that for pretty much every team. I still think we will bring in a couple of very good players, I've seen/heard nothing to dispell those feelings.

Let's just wait and see before we see all the boring posts which fill this forum every transfer window with the predictable comments.

There is still time!!!! Just chill out 👍🏼
I think it's way OTT to say they've done a 'wonderful job' but I do agree that we shouldn't ignore the positives when we get some negative ITK.

Gray and Bergvall are fantastic signings and Solanke was a statement of intent and filling an area loads of fans said we desperately needed to fill.

Equally I get the negative view from some that there are a couple of glaring gaps that don't feel like they are going to be filled...which is something we've seen time and time again over the years.

It's not all negative, and it's not all positive.

I would just like one window where it's all positive...just one.

Genuinely amazed this got 17 positive reviews. You think signing Neto (as an example) was only difficult because we made it difficult? Signing a Mendes client who 4 of the top 6 are interested in should be a piece of piss should it?

Of course. We only fail to land targets because of our own ineptitude, nothing to do with the fact the player or selling club might just favour other clubs....

Didn't ange himself say this wouldn't all be done in one or two windows, but a process of windows to shape his team?

I know what you mean though, one window, done early, settled and ready with a really exciting squad would be lovely.

The thing that my pessimistic mind also thinks is that if the season goes south and Ange is gone then the leadership will just say they don’t want to spend again until summer as want something right for whoever is next.

The whole “powder dry” thing for a potential person that MAY become available seems little far-fetched as Jan typically hard time to do business plus the person will be someone out of favour or form or someone at end of contract and not being offered a decent new one. These don’t often scream amazing players.

Fully expecting them to plead poverty etc in January too as some other problem will crop up. We seem a bit dithery and indecisive.
To be fair we have signed Dragusin, Porro, Kulusevski and Bentancur in January. I don't mind much if the winger has to wait but I just think we have other areas to improve and the budget should be there now and in January.

Which glaring holes haven't been addressed ?

We have 2 young wingers coming in / through. More depth in midfield, and another premier league quality up front.

Yes the ITK is a bit disappointing but where would you have spent more money ? Maybe another winger or a creative midfielder, but I'd hardly call them glaring holes.
LB cover is the only glaring hole

Yep very true and the comparisons to Arteta and Klopp and how long it took them to build their squads are fair.

We’ve also made plenty of terrible decisions in January too over the years. My point is more that you are completely on a wing and a prayer that someone wants to get rid of a good player mid way through the season.
