Although a good player, if we pay anywhere North of £17m then it will be a p*ss take. Morgan will basically be the 2014 version of Bent, Rebrov or Bentley... a highly rated player who wants to come to us but only if we pay way over the odds for them.

He's really not worth it. I'd like him to sign, but you have to look at the potential of players like Capoue (a player I've rated since before he signed for us) and ask yourself if Schneirderlin is actually worth the money they're asking for when we already have some decent midfielders to work with.

For the right price he'd be a useful signing, but once it gets to £20m+ I'd start looking at other options.

I think they will be continually. Schneirderlin and Musacchio are decent signings but only at the correct price. We are now not desperate in these positions. I would like both but we are not desperate as we have been in the past.

I suppose if Poch thinks MS is the linchpin of his system we have to bow to his knowledge of the player and his playing philosophy.

If soton want 20mil plus, and we can somehow shift maybe Dembele and one of Carrol or Sandro for a fee in the region of 10-12 mil, then that would make sense financially, even if we are paying over the odds for MS.

Schneiderlin, Capoue, Bentaleb, and Holtby for the two DM positions looks pretty good to me.

Remember Berbatov's head had been turned and we sold him but ONLY after we forced a huge transfer fee for him. Would he have gone on strike if he wasnt sold? or was Fergie desperate to sign him? Then we had the saga with Moutinho. High Stakes poker. Some you win and some you lose.

We lost both...

So the question becomes, how does Poch deal with this. It seems highly probable that he won't get this player

Harry forced Levy's hand when he wanted a midfielder and it would be the beginning of the end for him

AVB seemed to be unable to cope, at all, with the fact that we sometimes miss out on players. The more he lost, the more drab we became

Can Pochetinno adjust his plans and find another player or will this cause him issues? Please let if be the former.

But I'm all for forgetting this guy. He's a good player but everything about this transfer is turning toxic

Regarding Schneiderlin: The Goat hears that we bid exactly what we were told he would be sold for. It's Southampton moving the goalposts here.
Poor Morgan, he's being properly screwed by his club. Simply cannot see him play for them again. It's a shambles from their part... And has 'deadline deal' written all over it.

Moutinho for AVB's Spurs was worth the money. Schneirderlin isn't anywhere near that level, so certainly isn't worth paying more for.

There not really like for like players at all you do realise that?

MS was the best player in the league from many defensive aspects last season. Don't really see the point in this comparison either, you're never going to be able to draw that conclusion as you don't have the evidence to do so.

How dare they up the price and move the goalposts. I don't know any current premier league chairman that would do such a thing? It's an outrage!!

It's annoying Southampton have moved the goalposts. It makes it more annoying in that they will just take that money and, if they use it, pour it into mediocre players.

Annoying yes but if we've bid what they asked for then from their pov, surely they'll think well actually if Spurs are offering to pay what we've asked for (no low balling) then surely they're prepared to pay more. Didn't the same happen with Davies? Swansea wanted £8m, we offered £8m and then they upped the price to £10m.

As seems to be the common consensus, we should go all out (as ITK suggests we have/are) for MM as this is indeed essential and just see what happens with MS.

If we sign MS this window, great. If not, it could be a blessing in disguise because by January Poch may decide he is very happy with our current midfield crop of talent and feel he can improve them exponentially, rendering MS unnecessary.

Onions.

You were talking about the importance of Schneirderlin for Pochettino. I would have thought the reasons for comparing it to AVB's proposed signing of a player he considered essential to his system was pretty obvious.

Down to whether Poch thinks he's worth it though, well and Levy to!

I think it's also going to depend on how deeply Schneiderlin's prepared to dig in his heels; if he refuses to turn out for them, and continues to refuse, just what are they going to do? Carry on paying him a pretty substantial whack?

Moutinho was arguably a bigger piece to AVB's puzzle than Schneiderlin is to ours purely on the basis that we have players here that can fundamentally develop into what Schneiderlin brought in Poch's system for Southampton.

Actually, he seemed unable to cope with the fact that we weren't prepared to sign the entirety of his Porto squad.

AVB's depression was confounded with our refusal to purchase the Hulkmeister... a bullet dodged.
