We’re not one of the big boys. Yes, we might be getting closer but reputationally and financially we’ve got a lot of catching up to do

Maybeyou are missing the point of this thread ... it's not to discuss whether we are currently a big club or not... it's to discuss the ITK. And Hercules ITK suggests that things have changed and we will find this out between now and the summer. Common school of thought is that it is related ot both commercial deals and new players, at least one of which is a different class to what we are used to i.e. from the very top drawer.

Trust me I haven’t missed the point of the thread. I just don’t agree that Pulisic is a realistic target.

I’m not so sure about this. We’re not the same club we were, even as recently as 5 years ago. We’re absolutely not on the level of United, Madrid, Bayern, etc. That’s ridiculous. But we absolutely could recruit the same type of player that’s going to Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea. The only thing keeping us from this is money. If the money is there the players will be too.

We should announce all the new contracts at once, have a 'last supper' type picture with Poch in the middle of a long row of players all signing their new deals,

Poch holding his hands up "I'm magic you know"

His arms aren't long enough to go round all the players's

Dortmund aren’t selling one of the best young players in world football to us lol. If he leaves it’s to one of the big boys.

Isn't there meant to be a release clause for him which would give us a chance as we couldn't be outbid for him? As for joining one of the Uber clubs he may feel that it's too soon in his career to join someone like Barcelona, Real or PSG as he's only 19 and still learning his craft. He's seen first hand this season how we're prepared to give young players like Alli, Sanchez and Winks a chance in the big games and I'm sure that will have made an impression on him.

The reason people are suggesting that Pulisic fits the ITK is that he is a Nike athlete, and we are obviously sponsored by Nike. This coincides with a period where we are also looking for key commercial partners as we look to further expand into the US market with the NFL tie-up in relation to our new stadium. Pulisic did sign a new contract with Dortmund last January, but this is only until 2020, so effectively he's entering the last two years of his contract. For comparison he is signed up with Nike until 2022. Hercules ITK suggests that commercial deals will allow us to sign players we wouldn't normally be able to, so Pulisic is a natural candidate.
