You know what, I've reflected on this. But still can't really figure it. Neville is a tenacious little terrier. He also brings leadership qualities. But in no other way does this make sense. I understand why Corluka (way, and I mean way, too slow to be a RB) and Hutton (decent, aggresive, attacking but defensively not the quickest or smartest) need to be upgraded but they need to be upgraded, not backed up or replaced with with another flawed and aged RB.

Neither Neville, nor Peinaar, are the type of players that will increase our ability to challenge for titles or top4's with the likes of Arse, Chelsea, ManC, ManU etc.

Surely any players we bring in now should be improvements that relegate existing players down the pecking order.

Perhaps Walker is seen as the future, making one of Hutton, Corluka dispensable? Sell either for a decent fee and get PN as adequate back up for next to nothing for this season, whilst offering cover at LB (BAE plays every game)

Didn't the first half vs Charlton show that a player like Pienaar is required? Harry wouldn't to have wanted to play Modric (not that Pienaar is anyway as good). Didn't I also read some time back that Harry wanted players comfortable on the ball that could play all over the pitch??

Some of the ITK info earlier suggested we were after two strikers. If this is true then which of our current strikers are we going to ship out? Obviously Keane, but who else? Pav? Crouch? Sounds like we've got a lot of work to do.

Apparently Pav is negotiating a new contract so looks like Crouch. Have to feel sorry for him.

Yeah the qualities you mention are definitely behind Redknapp's thinking, I would assume, and there not to be underestimated. I sense that Harry wants a bit more grit and know how. Not to mention both players are versatile which is always a big plus.

Neville is a very committed player though and always gives his all. A leader who will roll his sleeves up and I think we lack those sort of players. We drop points from being a little too soft at times.

Yes I agree that he isn't a world class RB but he knows this League and has huge experience...and he can play a range of positions.

As for what happens with the overall picture of the RB situation, if this were to happen, I have no idea - so I hear what your saying there. Harry will see him as cover for a number of different positions though.

I'd prefer Pav to leave. Reasons being that he'd demand a fee larger to that of Crouch. Whoever were to come in i'd expect them to be ahead of crouch in the pecking order. But for me crouch is always an asset from the bench, especially in europe.

Lets say Suarez came in.

Suarez
Defoe
Crouch
Number 9/Lone striker/God knows who?

That would be a diverse set of forwards.

His agent claims this......he also said the same thing in early December, would be surprised to see Pav shipped out if we were to bring in another striker. Crouch doesnt seem to have a problem being an impact sub, and if it was Pav all he would so is moan to the papers.

Skyderen on COYS:

Just got a small update, no change in the price, but as Pool has made a concrete offer, there naturally will be.

No change on Suarez either, he wants to come if we can do a deal with Ajax.

No offers from Italian suiters, either, but they (people in Ajax) expect things to move in this week. They believe we will make a bid and so will the other club.

Fingers crossed.

And wages will not be a problem, he is not near any of our top-earners.

Too lazy of a player to play as a lone striker, only does well in a 4 4 2 because Defoe opens up the space with his runs/movement.

Dont really want to get into a debate about him, I just cant stand him as a player.

It quite clear with the players Harry seems to be after ( pienaar,Neville) that he is trying to fill the squad with versatile players. Ship out the dead wood and replace with a couple of players that can cover 5 at a push 6 positions between them. Can't see them in the starting 11 but fair okay to them if they do dislodge whoever is there currently. More space in the squad means room for that bg signing we all want too.

I'm not convinced that PN would be the death knell for Corluka or anyone else. I think he'd be signed primarily as a DM to come on to shore a lead up, and to start away games in either of the 2 FB slots. He'd be unglamorous grit.

No.

I think having a true back up to LB is as important as RB and DM cover - a sign that Harry's decided to give up on Bale at LB for now?

I'm unsure about Neville a little bit but can't understand the hesitation of some people about Pienaar, the guy's utter quality and would improve the balance of our midfield squad hugely. Football's about the 25 players in your squad, not just the first 11.

Some bad news for you all:

Via Coys: This guy has been in the same restaurant tonight as Harry and managed to get to chat with him for a bit.

Right just had 10 15 minute cinversation. Firstly what a fantastic nice charming man. Not sure he wants the hassle of England for starters. Saurez or what ever he's called said he's Scouse bound and mire a second striker. Adebayior too expensive and City would never sell. Dzecko we never had a chance. Wound my Scouse wife up and said we were getting Torres. Tried for info but was very coy

That's dubious at best Mark. Even if all that happened, it sounds like Harry was winding him up more than his wife.
