Bale + a decent striker and Levy would have so many people back on board and we'd be a threat for sure.

Given Bale is clearly going to require a big financial commitment and that the ITK is still pointing towards multiple different striker targets as the preferred one, suggesting that we haven't made a decision even now, I hope that we don't end up with neither!

When he eventually signs for someone, anyone, i'm going to lock the fuckers thread with ten padlocks and ban the mention of his name in this thread. Fucking roll on. That jug eared fucker has been the bane of this threads life.

SC'er comes home from work and sits with his mrs to eat dinner

Mrs SC'er: How was your day dear?
SC'er: Well, Spurs might be signing Bale, but I think the financials are difficult and i'm not sure he'd be a good signing

Day two: SC'er comes home from work and sits with his mrs to eat dinner

Mrs SC'er: Whaddya know sweetcakes?
SC'er: Well, Spurs might be signing Bale, but I think the financials are difficult and i'm not sure he'd be a good signing
Mrs SC'er: *Rolls eyes*

Days three, four and five: SC'er comes home from work and sits with his mrs to eat dinner

Mrs SC'er: How was your day dear?
SC'er: Well, Spurs might be signing Bale, but I think the financials are difficult and i'm not sure he'd be a good signing

Day six: SC'er comes home from work and sits with his mrs to eat dinner

Mrs SC'er: Whaddya know tootsie?
SC'er: Well, Spurs might be signing Bale, but........
Mrs SC'er: *Twats SC'er around the head with a cast iron frying pan*

What was the re take up of ST’s like I wonder? Cynic, moi?

Actually if there is a remote chance then I feel we should go for it. Hope DL has gone to Spain and looked him in the eye and asked if he was born to play for Spurs?

Thanks Trix (and others)

Edit - Note to myself, don’t mention name again :cautious:

Oh and while i'm in rant mode, Bale's ability as a player (or possible lack thereof) is and never has been a topic for this thread. Or any player for that matter.

So piss off, we provide a specific venue for that. Use it.

If Mensa was measured in Yak snot some of you would be drowning in it. Fucking bunch of mediocre clarinet players.

I think it's good that Levy has Birch to talk this over with now - someone that understands both the financial and football aspects of such a monumental deal.

If we pull the trigger, I can't see any way anyone else comes in, despite all the noise around strikers at the moment. Lots of grumpy faces on here if that comes to pass, no doubt!

As ever, thanks to everyone for sharing what they know!

if we could get him and a good ST who can play with or as a sub for Kane then my view of our chances as well as style of play may have to be radically altered. Right now it’s all talk and we have had several years of that

The Government's u-turn on crowds in stadiums could be a major stumbling block here.

Bale makes a lot of commercial sense, and if we are ever going to take a risk, why not now, when we have one of the best strikers and best managers we will ever have - both of whom are unlikely to be here a couple of years from now.

For Kane and Mourinho the next two seasons, at most, are all that count. Throw in the hunt for a stadium sponsor, the positive PR from the Amazon documentary and the epic signing of Alex Morgan, and Bale really might be the final piece in the puzzle to take us to another level of prominence.

But more than any other club our finances are dependent on our incredible new stadium. With the increased match day receipts, the NFL connection and so many other new streams of revenue linked with the stadium, we, more than most, need crowds back on seats.

With Covid, the risks are huge and totally dependent on a situation we cannot predict or control.

I would totally understand if Levy plays it safe. Or is this perhaps the moment to take that gamble, Daniel? What was that thing you read again - To dare is to do?

Agreed. Any player coming in who is aged over 28 years old, will instantly -

a) increase the average age of the squad significantly
b) go against everthing we’ve learnt about Levy’s philosophy.

Surely the philosophy has to change soon. If I’m Levy and I have a club which doesn’t need fans through the door to continue paying wages then I can’t see why He doesn’t take a punt. I reckon there would be a huge increase in shirt sales and various merchandise maybe an amazon doc part 2. Biggest chance of a cup with all the stars aligned world class manager with a world class front 3. Could likely knock the second striker hunt on its head for a while also (sic)

Interesting to see most posters saying if we sign Bale AND a new striker; not many would be that happy with just him, seemingly. I can’t see Levy doing both, tbh

I’d advise on caution here, not least on it relying on Hercules managing to count to 5 ;-) Without the banter, the point still stands, strikers are being chucked at us at the minute and I’d suggest you interpret “5” as “many” and don’t fixate on the number as it’s constantly changing.
You are perfectly corrrct Rob?

I genuinely think they are different cases and not connected. Our plan all along has been to bring in a striker and that will not change. Bale is an extra an addition, Jose will be happy to take him but not at the expense of his transfer strategy, which is why ultimately we will do our best but won't break ourselves for him. To some extent I'd guess that's why ITK's are advising caution.

A deal just for us? This makes me wonder about Real’s agenda :cautious:

Even so, super exciting update! Thank you ?
Is it possible that it's Bale, not Real, lowering their demands for us? Perhaps he'd consider a wage cut for us, but not for a club like Man Utd.

Or perhaps our "special relationship" with Real wasn't just about us being their feeder club after all

For me it's worth the gamble to shell out on Bale because it gives us a better chance of that Champions League money.
