Ouch. Mitch Docker ended up in some barbed wire. Some people just have shit luck.

Apparently Luke Rowe's been disqualified for riding on the pavement when he had to go around to avoid a load of spectators who were stood all over the road. Sometimes the commissaires really are clueless.
I hope Mitch is alright for next week. He has to get over his demons on the lead in to the forest.
Luke Rowe really got himself in a pickle. Was on the footpath and ended up in amongst the crowd. Apparently all riders before the race were told in no uncertain terms to stay on the road, according to Robbie McKewan. Still a bit rough though. I mean no one got hurt, so move on.
Great ride from Terpstra though. Quick Step had too many options. He is a bloody strong rider though.

Yeah, I saw Sagan cutting that corner at the turn towards the Kwaremont by riding on the pavement. There were no doubt plenty of other riders who did similar.

Sagan's right about other teams playing into Quickstep's hands though. No other team has as many potential winners of a cobbled classic as they do so any of them can attack and be a significant danger. There was a big spit in the peloton after the first time over the Kwaremont that had almost all the Quickstep and BMC riders detached but no one in the front group took advantage. In the end I think Quickstep only needed to use Iljo Keisse to bring it back.

Sagan is a freak. IMO the best all round rider in the world at the moment. All he needed was a sniff to get away, and while the peloton was looking at themselves wondering who was going with him, he was gone.
Fantastic effort from Dillier as well. That was a hell of a ride. Fully deserved to arrive in the velodrome with Sagan.

Sadly the Belgian rider died from a heart attack. It's the first time I've ever heard of that in cycling (apart from the drug deaths like Tom Simpson of course).

Yeah very sad. 23 years old. Died in hospital. Just goes to show no matter how fit you are, things can happen anytime. Puts things into perspective.

Roglic is looking really good this year. Amazing how people can come into sports later and do so well.

Michael Woods from EF Drapac is another great story. Elite runner who got badly injured and did some cycling as cross training to get fit again and turned out to be really good at it, got to UCI World Tour level in 2016 then top 10 in the Vuelta the following year and second at LBL this year.

Makes me think there's still hope for me... until I remember Phil Gaimon's quote "Is there a sport other than cycling where a high percentage of amateurs think they could be pros?"

Roglic is a fella everyone should watch. So much to like about him. Doesn't get the attention but by crickey he's a good cyclist.

I feel sorry for these guys coming through seemingly out of nowhere because, as is cycling these days, they're instantly going to be questioned in terms of performance enhancement, etc. I mean how else could they come from nowhere and be so good (obviously discounting the fact they were very good at other sports and have good physiology etc...).

I remember after Dumolin's Giro win last year there were lots of people questioning how clean he was. Not a great time to be a cyclist!

Have been working nights for a while (after not working for a long time!) so haven't seen anything of the Giro this year. Been following the results though. Simon Yates must have blown big time. Pity for the young lad. Will be interesting to see how Froome gets on this season with the Tour.

Le Tour starts today! I've never liked prologues so glad to see it dropped this year. Will surely be a very interesting sprint finish today.

Have to say I loved that they timed the race so it finished 20 mins before the semi final. Top stuff from ASO and the riders.

Gaviria looks like the man to beat on the flats. What a massive talent. A slightly steeper last few 100 metres today so I smell a Sagan masterclass but it'll surely be another mass sprint.

Plus, Froome and Porte dropping almost a minute already makes tomorrow's TTT absolutely massive already. A perfect start really.

I've watched almost every stage but couldn't bother posting about it here after the first couple didn't engage any discussion at all. :p

I so badly want GT to hold on and win this now.

To be honest, I'd love to see someone outside Sky win it, just to make it interesting, but I won't be to upset to see Thomas win it, he's always seemed like a decent fella and has been consistently getting better the last few years.

Yeah I'd much rather see a non-Sky winner but Thomas really deserves it. Let's hope someone, anyone, can break the stranglehold next year.

saw the highlights of the big stage overnight. Roglic getting better as the race progresses. Delighted to see him top three, and is a rider that will be a genuine contender next year. Boy can time trial but a huge ask to get over the World Champ.
