When KP is fit again, have Root opening in place of Compton, keep Bairstow at 6. Sorted.

I'd probably open with Bell if we were going to do something like that, greater experience for now mindful of two Ashes series coming up but still a stroke maker who looks to play his shots. Then Trott as usual at 3, but the two young guys should bat either side of Pietersen, in order to keep some experience right through the order.

1. Cook
2. Bell
3. Trott
4. Root
5. Pietersen
6. Bairstow

Bell had a bit of mental problem with the whole 'Sherminator' thing that Warne started which I think got in his head a bit, Root looks pretty fearless to me, would have your order but with Root and Bell swapped.

Won't you be struggling for bowlers then, with Prior at 7?

Done purely on the fact its the Ashes, you'd hope by now Bell has got over it and it doesn't heap all the pressure on Root.

Could drop a batsmen for the extra bowler if needs be and put Prior at 6, but this is how they seem to be going and batting really needs a lot of depth to it the way things are going right now.

Compton just looks so ungainly with a bat in his and.

Mind Cook can look a little wooden at the crease.

They've been playing 3 seamers and a spinner for a couple of years now. Occasional spin / medium stuff from Trott, Petersen and Root and job's a goodun.

It's a lot less stressful watching this than a Spurs game, especially Sunday's!

Good man Jimmy. Keep em coming.
