Might give us chance to play Burns, Sibley and Crawley as Top 3 to give good idea which 2 of them should open when Root returns

I guess so, but with all due respect to them, a top 4 of Burns, Sibley, Crawley and Denly doesn't make the pulse race.

@Spurslove will be happy.

County Cricket can start on August 1 according to EWCB.

They are hoping, surprisingly in my view, to run a T20 and 4 day tournament, both in 3 regional groups of 6, with a final for each, with back up plan being T20 and a 50 over competition.

good news the pro game will be starting again. still no news on the grass roots level game restarting. have to fear for the future of local cricket - a season missed could end up turning a lot of players away from cricket, not to mention clubs going under.

If anyone here is absolutely hankering for some cricket back in their lives, the ECB are currently live streaming Team Stokes vs Team Buttler, an intra-squad friendly. You can watch it live here:

Only issue is there is no sound and the camera is static but I'm just happy to watch some cricket!

Never seen this Bracey lad before but he looks a talent.

I’ve been sad enough to watch a lot of it.

Bracey looks decent. been waiting for a while to see Dan Lawrence deliver on his early promise, I’m quite excited to see how he goes. he has the talent.

looking at this, we have some quite decent batting reserves, albeit they are all young and inexperienced. it’s exciting for the future.

EDIT as i pressed ‘post’, Bracey was out ?

Sibley looks as if all the bits of his action are fitting together well. Jennings' action actually looks convincingly simple. Neither of them have scored any runs. 3 overs.

As a lover of cricket I am not really looking forward to this series my reason being that their captain I think his name is Holder or Holding seems to want to bowl 10 overs an hour and he is the main culprit I watched one match with the windies and he took 13 minutes to bowl an over . For me this series is not worth watching as the gamesmanship namely slow and sometimes very slow over rate is a tun off and I dont expect this test series to be different I hope I am proved wrong .

England squad for next week's test. I'm a bit nervous about the batting.

England squad: Ben Stokes (capt), James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Dominic Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Zak Crawley, Joe Denly, Ollie Pope, Dom Sibley, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

Reserves: James Bracey, Sam Curran, Ben Foakes (wk), Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Saqib Mahmood, Craig Overton, Ollie Robinson, Olly Stone.

Typical! After months of waiting for test cricket to start.. Its sodding raining! Looking at the forecast might struggle to get play today.. But least tomorrow is looking slightly better and the next three days look good!

I don't think they'd have needed all 5 days in any case! How in the groove will the batsmen be?

Now who on average has been our most consistent bowler allowing for injuries etc the last 10 years excepting Anderson the answer must be Broad . Selectors decide he will be dropped so it seems I'm sorry I just dont get it .He was arguably our best bowler in the last ashes series .

That is like saying Spurs should play Vertonghen and Alderweireld forever.

We are year on from the Ashes series, selectors will have seen how they are performing in the nets and in the practice match (where Broad was wicketless), and have one eye on the future.
Archer, Wood, Stokes, Bess is a very good young attack going forward with Anderson currently or maybe Woakes, with Robinson and Broad currently waiting in sidelines.
I was more surprised Leach was left out, but again selectors will have seen how they are currently performing not relying on a year ago.

There's six test matches this summer which come pretty much one after the other. At some point every bowler is going to have to take a rest or be left out. There's no problem with this, it's widely understood. Even more so by Broad and Anderson themselves who know they have to be managed more carefully at this stage of their careers.
