Opportunity here for England, whether they can take it or not is a different matter but The Oval has always seemed to be a bat first, pile up the runs, and then batting later on becomes a bit trickier and it starts to turn.

Edit: but here we go..........

Wether or not we think Burns is the right guy going forward, he’s been, by a fair margin, the best opener on show for either side in this series I reckon.

But I’ve no idea how much that means :D

27. Highest opening score (Partnership) of the series,
by either side.
England rattling along at nearly 4 an over.

What is forgotten is that without loss of play in the second test due to rain interuptions this match would be the decider.
Massive overreacting to Englands play albeit massive problems with early order batting .

Root dropped ... again! :wideyed:

That's three times now. I reckon he'll be dropped another five times this innings and then die suddenly from feline leukemia.

Root out for 57

That’s four times he should have been out, so he averaged roughly 14 per life in that innings :D

Joe Root is so mentally fragile. Yes it was a good ball, a really good ball but how often now have we seen Root get 50 then get out? His conversion rate must be appalling.

Why oh why did we not at least give a chance to a couple of younger batsmen in this test who have been performing well all summer.
I get it that we want to draw the series but its the batsmen who have failed throughout this series, and giving a couple like Sibley and Pope etc a go would not have predjudiced our chances, plus given the dressing room a bit of well needed freshening up.
Totally lost faith with this regime. Get some people in who can make decisions and plan long term.

What time was the collapse?
Australia bowled when they should have batted.
Dropped Root three times
and we still can't get a defendable score.
All out 250?

And now a wicket from a no-ball

That's a bit of a reach.
They were in much better shape in that second test, than we were in the third.

They needed another ton with 4 wickets left.
Yes we may have won it, but certainly no foregone conclusion.
To basically have declared us winning it, and then say people are massively overreacting is very hypocritical of you.
If anything you are the one trying to defend the indefensible.

They have been better with both bat and ball, for vast majority of series. One unbelievable Stokes knock apart, we would be 3 down

Article that’s pretty much spot on......

Bairstow is averaging 25 since the start of 2018. Perhaps dropping him will do him a favour and he can come again, who knows?

Over to you Root 66

Here's another one...

Since Bairstow has been opening in ODI's his average against balls that are "hitting" the stumps from seam bowlers in Tests...

Is 7.

SEVEN.

Cummins face concerns me.

It's the face of a man who's been strangling prostitutes undetected for a few years.
