We have a real problem (albeit a good one). Young Bethell just looks a test player and has to stay in at three for me and Pope has been brilliant behind the stumps. How do you get Smith back in the side, which we have to do somehow

Duckett and Bethell are fun to watch.
Not sure Crawley will be keeping his place much longer because when it's not working for him, he's pretty terrible.

Was thinking exactly the same (Bethall looks born for test cricket) but Smith walks back in the side as keeper.

If Bethell continues this form and gets stacks of runs v India does Pope (vice captain) get back in?

+ Pope averages over 40 at no3. So maybe the Duckett or Crawley spots get looked at 🤷‍♂️

I think Pope is the one under pressure, he struggles at times at 3 so opening isn’t an option so he has to drop out. Smith can bat anywhere and walks in. Nice problem to have but it is said that it is easier to to get into the squad that it is being removed from it. I like the bowling balance with spinner in there to.

Looks like our boys got a tee off time booked for Monday. This game could be played very in 3 days

Easy you drop Pope and play Smith who is an exceptional talent, a better keeper and a better batter

Crawley and Pope are the weakest links in the side. For me Bethell and Smith both keep their places so pick it’s one of the weak links that miss out

Meanwhile,
After getting pumped in Perth, the come back is alive in my hometown.
Travis Head would be perfect for Bazball. A mighty hundred when needed.
Marnus finally had a decent dig. Still a worry over Smith though. Looks finished.

God, I love the Basin. Favourite cricket ground in the world. Spent many happy years in Wellington and VUW was my alma mater. The Basin is basically inside the biggest roundabout in Wellington. If you can protect yourself from the wind it’s a brilliant viewing ground.
Mate, 2002 at the BR was mental. I was dating a kiwi at the time and ended up going out there just at the time when she needed to go home for a while, tied in brilliantly so took a six month sabbatical from work.
Basin Reserve is the best two days at cricket I’ve ever had, once you negotiate getting in it’s one of the most quintessential cricket settings you could get and I’d recommend it to anyone!
I was in Nelson at the time so little flight over courtesy of the Girlfriend who was a steward for origin at the time, first day got rained off so we just went to a few bars and then she told me she’d booked me a ticket for the second day as she had to work.
That’s when everything went tits up.
I’d made a St George’s cross with a cockerel in the corner and my home town through the middle, this guy then came up to me and it transpired he lived in the road directly behind mine.
Twelve thousand miles and I bump into someone who lives 200 yards away from me, unreal.
He then dragged me over to the mound to meet his crew, the barmy army founders.
Absolutely mental day, guys were being carried out on flat bed trollies with Vic escorting them out with a trumpet.
One of them days I’ll take to the grave!

Root, what a legend!

Also why has Stokes declared here? So much time left in the game. He really doesn’t give a shit about his numbers

I wouldn’t have declared yet but it doesn’t really matter either way

I found it odd they didn’t go off as soon as Root got his ton 🤷‍♂️

Looks a good bowling day against a team we seem to have the wood over at the moment. Could be a quick one today
