After searching for it on Sky, I find it on Tntsports 4...ironically lots of 4s involved the chanel, 44 runs, 4 wickets! Woeful!

unfortunately i don't think Jordan Cox will get too many more goes. seems to have real issues against quick and/or the short ball.

Which is a shame as he's had a great (when he's played) County Season at Essex, although Michael Pepper plays ahead of him and was also called up to the squad but not playing? Although its fair to say it was quite a 'B' team that was picked, but even so consistency is something they clearly struggle with.

it's great they've given chances to players. I think already you can see the ones who look equipped to cope (Bethell, Mousely) and the ones who don't.

unfortunately for Cox, with an eye on the Ashes, if he can't handle quick or short bowling, picking him against Australia is out of the question.

it's great that for once though we are using the time between white ball tournaments to blood new players.

Interesting listening to Cook talk about Cox saying one of his strengths is pulling and hooking but watching him in this series he's head looks scrambled. He said for his straight bat shots he's dragging the bat across the line which is a sign of tension, gripping the bat too hard maybe. Players of his age shouldn't be discarded, this is what these tours are for to highlight who's ready and for those with problems to work on them.

Can't help but feel the bowling is a real issue though, Rashid won't go on for ever?

Re Cox, I know he's been desperate to get in the England setup and was a contributing factor in his move to Essex as he wants the 'Gloves' for England. Perhaps he needs some help to relax a little and play his natural game with a bit more freedom?

yea agreed, I hope they give players more time, but equally exposing him too early might wreck him (see Ramprakash). Difficult balance to get right.

also we've been spoilt over a number of years by players being blooded and being great from the get go - Cook, Root, KP etc.

the bowling is a bit of a worry, bit more of a deep rooted problem though, not easy to fix. There's a lot of possibles in the spin department - the Ahmed's, Bashir, Hartley etc. They need to play more games to learn their trade though and end up learning on the job.

still, excited to see what McCullum might do with the white ball sides.

I feel for Hartley, feels like he's been dropped like a stone!

But we also have players like Duckett, Crawley etc who took time to adapt. Got to feel McCullum will be a big factor in developing this type of player

I can't help but feel England went from a white ball side with batters and bowlers that were feared, real game winning players to a side that I should think most quality sides would look at and think they've got every chance of beating. I can't remember the last time I saw a team sheet for white ball cricket and thought "now there's a winning team". Red ball, completely the opposite, albeit consistency and engagement of thought is a little lacking at times.

The issue here is who really cares?

A bunch of players, many of whom aren't even household names in their own homes, play a few knockabout games for the benefit of TV during the 'off' season.

On occasions the batting might come off, on others it might not, but hey-ho: there'll be another franchise somewhere or other in the world, another set of coloured pyjam's to wear and another new stamp on the passport, safe in the knowledge that whatever happened a day or two ago will all be forgotten.

Downgrading all other formats at the altar of T20 (and the ridiculous 'hit and giggle' 100) has been a sorry saga.

What's the script with Salt and Bethell and them coming to England. Are the ECB and private schools out there scouting for talent and offering scholarships or do they both have strong English links?
Doesn't sit right with me if we're doing the former.

So did I and didn't get the answer lol
All I could find was that he'd gone to Rugby school on a scholarship at 12. Bethell that is.
Salt was born in Wales his family moved to Barbados when he was 10 and he returned when he was 15. His formative/serious cricket although perhaps not his interest was pretty much wholly over here. I think in both cases we don't know the full circumstances but I haven't seen any hint of ECB involvement.

That would be a hell of a crystal ball at 12 as well.

My son works for Warwickshire cricket as a coach, with Bethell I think he played against rugby school when they had a tour over there, he was so good they pretty much offered him a scholarship, they then spoke to Warwickshire to get him into the academy set up , they knew from the minute he came he would play for England pretty much
