Incredible technique by Bale for that goal, also great work by Lennon with the assist

As much as I love the goal. those who are decalring it the ultimate evidence of skill are wide of the mark IMO. I think its a lucky goal. A "take a chance" goal.

How can a goal that he meant to score be lucky?
Well, even our previous fixtures show us that players will often try and fire one it, even if they are not well placed, in the hope that it maanges to go in. I think it was one of those types of goals.

He took a shot at goal with the intention to score. That's not lucky. Surely all great goals are 'take a chance' goals? But the intent was to score, so it can't be considered luck. His first goal was luck, because he didn't know anything about it.

Okay, Cos...deep breathes, deep breathes.

T'was a good goal, indeed...but hardly a patch on the one Edin Dzeko WILL score to clinch the EPL 2010 - 2011 for us (you heard it here, first)

The Bale goal was not "luck" - have you tried volleying a football? To do so like Gareth Bale did, at the height he did it, takes an enormous amount of technique. Head over the ball, the whole bollocks.

If he had shinned it and it had spooned into the net, that's lucky! But he caught across the ball and it curled into the top corner.

Fantastic!

The debate over whether one tremendous goal is better than another tremendous goal is pretty pointless, mind you, though it's good for a chat.

I wasn't comparing it to other goals and certainly there have been some great ones over the years and there will be many more to come.

However, it was done with such spectacular style that I think it's worth watching again.

Gareth Bale on form is wonderful to behold.

It was skills and lucky combined. Skills is actually getting his foot around the ball at that height while keeping on balance. Luck is when he hit the top corner.

Comedy gold, so every time the ball leaves a players foot it becomes a "take a chance goal"? I always thought that skill was being good enough to direct the ball towards the goal, you learn something new every day!

All goals are lucky, didn't you know that?!

(in a way this is true, but also... it's not!)
