I'm probably being dense here but what's the issue with Linekar Linnicker Gary Lineker?
Some people don't like how he openly cheered on Leicester when they were winning the league. I think it's a bit ridiculous - it's his boyhood, hometown club doing the impossible, of course he's going to support them - but still.

He's also ruffled many feathers on Twitter being vocally anti-Brexit but I doubt that effects most people's attitudes.

Nah Steve Carr was a quality right back. The best we had in years. I'm sure many would like him in our team now (I mean the current version could probably improve us). He left us for Newcastle which was a mistake but he's no villain.

If Klinsmann is playing I would love Sheringham to play too. Imagine one half with Klinsmann and Sheringham and another half with Keane and Berbatov. The 2 best strike partnerships during my time as a fan.

He won nothing and never finished above us.
He went for more money.
He went in 2004. Newcastle had finished 4th, 3rd and 5th in consecutive seasons and were competing in Europe. We'd finished 9th, 10th and 14th - we were closer to relegation than we were to Newcastle. They were a much, much better team at the time and everybody in their right minds would have agreed they looked by far the more likely to win honours. People like to forget that before ENIC turned the club around we were pants, had been for some time, and weren't a big enough club for talents like Carr. The fact that Newcastle being a bigger club is now a hilarious thought is because we've pushed on tremendously, not because he was wrong at the time.

I've certainly not forgotten how bad we were. But whilst players like Sheringham and Judas left to win things, Carr went to where the biggest pay cheque was.
Sherringham and Judas won a hell of a lot as they both went to teams at the top who consistently won things.
Carr went to a team they may have been around the top of the league but hadn't, and still havent, won a single trophy since the 1950's
I liked Newcastle back then, I see no reason why neutrals wouldn't, they were fun to watch. But going there to "win things" is ridiculous.

I always took a grim satisfaction in the way that move worked out for him (Carr), but it never struck me as irrational in terms of ambition. Obviously with hindsight we know they didn't win anything. But they sure seemed closer to it back then.

In retrospect, Fall of 2004 was a fateful time for both clubs. We brought in Martin Jol, they saw off Bobby Robson, and the trajectories couldn't have been more different. Poor timing, there, Stevie.

He's the Manager...

Robbie Keane, Rafael van der Vaart, Dimitar Berbatov, Allan Nielsen, David Howells, Stephen Carr, Darren Anderton and goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt have now been announced with many more stars still to be revealed.

Nielsen revealed on Facebook on Tuesday that Jurgen Klinsmann and Jermaine Jenas would also be taking part.

Levy can fuck right off if he overlooks Grzegorz Rasiak and Ramon Vega

I agree about Steven Carr, I immediately thought about what a shit he was when he left.

But then I remembered that Keane and berbatov weren't any better and I don't have issue with them.
Bygones I guess, except for sol obviously

I'm mostly happy for JJ, he's such a spurs fanboy in a sea of bitter Liverpool and arsenal pundits

By the same logic if we come in for a player from a lower Prem club now we can't expect to get them. They pay their stars more than we can pay our rotation options, and we are no more likely to win things now than Newcastle were then.

Madrid are playing the next day, no chance they'll be allowed to come over I'd expect. Can't see us featuring anybody who's still involved in the game at a semi-serious level. Same reason I doubt we'll see Lennon/Dawson/Defoe/Huddlestone despite all being pretty popular choices otherwise.

Shame, to watch Bale roast Maicon one more time would have been epic.

Newcastle imploded because they were spending money the did not have and the result was they had to sell there best players.
The reason I hate City ; Chelsea from our league and PSG and Juventus from abroad is that there is no penalty for there overspending because the owners are cheats and liars and do a multitude of things to avoid such a fate as having to cut losses by selling players because according to their accounts they make a profit every year this is solely to the fact that they cook the books by having their own companies overpay for stadium ; shirt sleeve ; training ground sponsorship and the wiping out any loans or debts by fixing it so they don't have to pay back overspend because there is no accountability they can spend what they like and no comebacks.
And still the football media go on about how wonderful these uber rich clubs are.
An example I can in the future see City circumvent the rules is the EUFA want to limit the amount of loan players to eight if they succeed
all they will do is put these players with either their American or Aussie club owned by them and buy them back when and if required.
Like I say cheats and liars with no care about the game they just want to win everything including the derby and the grand national.

A few I haven't yet seen mentioned that i'd love to make an appearance:

Sandro
Palacios
Tainio
Davids (he played for both teams, should definitely be there)

And someone a bit from left field - Fabrice Muamba. I know he never played for Spurs but the night of his cardiac arrest at WHL was one of the most memorable nights at the Lane (for all the wrong reasons obviously) and I think giving him 10 minutes on the pitch would be a fitting inclusion.

Sandro is still playing in italy. No chance.
