Couldn't see a full time thread for him in the chat but think it would be useful to have one.

My two pence on the subject: can clearly identify a talented player but is terrible at building a rounded squad to compete.

We've back loaded most of the signings that could be elite in two or three years and not signed any where near enough experience into the squad. We've signed two promising youngsters in January and one experienced when we really needed two players with experience to lead this young group through.

Jury is out on Lange's long term ability but if Ange is in trouble so should the whole football structure around him be right now.

Maybe he is not allowed to sign experienced players?? They have little or no sell on value.....

We don't know what he has been asked to do. I suspect he is merely doing exactly what has been asked of him. He can clearly spot talented young players and I'm happy with that.

Well if that is the case we need to set our expectations at being 14th in the league and be happy we've made a semi final.

The fergie team that had loads of kids also had experienced winners and that's clearly what we lack. If we don't sign experienced players in the next window I'll be really disappointed.

I don't anticipate us having 11 first team players unavailable till the end of time.

I don't think he's done that badly in identifying players. We don't know what restrictions he may or may not be working with. The loans out have largely been successful this season as well. He is the least of our problems.

Anyone operating under Levy is not operating on a level playing field to the competition. So hard to judge Lange in this setup.

It really depends what he has been tasked with. His young signings look good but it's one of those where it could take years to determine how good his work has been. The experienced signings are a much smaller sample size , not sure anyone didn't know Solanke either, same for Werner. Danso looks a good fit so far but time will tell. If he has been asked to sign prospects to be built from the ground up I think they fit pretty well the way we play. Still not sure on the wide attackers though, they still seem best suited to the inside forward role. We also need a left back still and a defensive midfielder but again it really depends if he has been asked for those.

I think this is pretty harsh personally. I think in time you'll consider what he's doing is very valuable. Also depends on his remit

We seem to be getting good young talents so hardly failing if that is his remit. The wage bill being compressed to me is the main issue.

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes.

However, it doesn't look good when Villa has gotten drastically better under Monchi.

He comes across very well in his interviews and albeit not a criticism of Lange, the way he describes the complexities of signing players does imply he’s trying to do his job with one hand tied behind his back.

I mean the two clubs couldn’t be more different in how they’ve been approaching things at the board level lately, so hard to judge I suppose.

It really depends what he has been tasked with.

100% this. What is his remit? We just don’t know. Maybe salary budget wise, he’s been told to overhaul the squad and fill it with Under 23’s so we have a Dortmund type setup, prime for improving to sell on at a later date and already have the replacements in place. This theory would tie in with the comments in the ITK forum, about having a list of 9? Under 21’s that we are targetting for the summer.
Ultimately, if won’t, or don’t feel we can, compete for ready made squads, then smart talent identification and recruitment is the path we have to take. Identify when cheap, put the work into developing the players, and if they become valuable sellable assets, it generally means they have performed and we should have seen the benefit of that on the pitch.

Surely the remit is to deliver a squad that can challenge other wise what's the point.
Spoken like a true fan - I'm sure they aspire to that but I'd suggest that they hope that might be a byproduct of what they are doing rather than what they are fully focused on.

difficult if you are told we need low wages. Obvious is then buy either ready made players of low quality but who can do a job now or players who aren’t quite ready but with massive potential.

Other than knowing who was responsible for the Guehi bid, the other mystery for me is the focus on bringing down the wage bill as relative to revs i think i saw it was WAY below par for the EPL so id love to know how we can compete for titles whilst cutting the bill from an already relatively low position?
Guess wed need Levy to open the Kimono which isnt really his thing.
