Love this but no Aurier at RB pls. I’m more than happy to fill in instead.

He should play KWP at right back. He's not a liability there like Aurier, and has had more success in his limited appearances for us than Foyth.

Similarly, play Sessegnon at left back - he seems quite steady and appears to stick to tactical instruction like glue...almost to the point of being too risk averse.

Then put Winks or Dier in the middle with Ndombele with instructions to never get ahead of the ball when we have possession.

Finish off with Sissoko in for the suspended Son, with Moura and Alli in the three, and we all know the rest of the first 11 atm.

The Saints should be respected, but are quite beatable if we approach this properly and stop allowing them clear runs on our goal or dopey free kicks in the final third.

Get Sissoko back in the team. He’s the only one apart NDombele that makes surging runs through midfield. He has his limitations but recently he has been delivering end product.

Someone suggested playing him in the Aurier role if we keep with wingbacks for this game. I think I’d be up for that. I don’t trust him in the centre of midfield and he’s a better wingback than Aurier.

Would be worried about the numerous free kicks he would give away but I can see the thinking behind it...

I am very curious if without playing Aurier are we able to play a normal back 4

Sanchez Toby CB
Sess as LB
KWP as RB
Moura RW
Lamela LW or Sess LW and Rose as LB
Tanguy Celso in the middle
Kane and Ali up top

Going back to basic might be good for us defensively . Playing this 4-2-3-1 that becomes a 3-2-4-1 in attack is risky cause Aurier as good as he in attack does not track back

I want to pioneer a new formation 4-4-2.

Eriksen on the bench for me. You can't plan for the future when you keep playing a player leaving at end of season. Lo Celso needs his time to settle in.

Being serious though, it’s tough to decide.

Is Lamela fit enough as I’d have him on the right if he was (but I don’t feel personally given his comments of being able to do 15 minutes that he’s quite ready to start yet).

Moura for me is more of a super sub to come on and run at tired defences, just too inconsistent to start.

Sessegnon was disappointing in last game although we struggled to take control of midfield in general and a young winger settling into team really needs his midfielders to be protecting him a bit more so loathed to be too harsh on him yet (plus if Son hasn’t stupidly got himself sent off he’d have been eased in a bit more).

Can Lo Celso play further up in attacking three on right - wouldn’t have him as conventional right sided as worked better for us when a Eriksen played up there and him, Dele and Son interchanged.

Much as Eriksen improved against Norwich given he so blatantly wants out I just wouldn’t be starting him personally as we need to move on and find new options.

In midfield I would personally throw in Skipp alongside Ndombele as Sissoko, Dier and Winks have failed to impress there and if Skipp does do well then it gives us another option and if he also struggles then reinforces need to prioritise another midfielder (or maybe even two this January). I would still be interested to see Ndombele and Winks tried well a double pivot as Winks may benefit from having a more dynamic midfielder alongside him and we haven’t actually played those two in a 4-2-3-1 as Winks was either partnered with Sissoko (which is proven to be a very unbalanced combo) or was with Sissoko and a Ndombele in our very unbalanced 4-3-1-2 formation Poch was obsessed with earlier in season.

Gazzaniga

Aurier Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen

Skipp Ndombele

Lamela (or Lo Celso) Dele Sessegnon

Kane

That means a proper defensive midfielder, a more all-round midfielder on right to complement Dele’s more direct style rather than two out and out direct wingers.

Aurier is best we have right back wise at moment but still can be dodgy.

Vertonghen and Alderweireld are a bit too slow to be in same defence but Rose is really dodgy nowadays so not really got a choice there.

As said previously we really need a right back, left back and defensive midfielder but will probably not get this January so will be squeaky bum ahoy for rest of season.
