Dier with strict instructions to simply sit and shield the central defenders.

I want to see a flat back 4 protected by a DCM and a clean sheet their primary focus. I’d play Foyth over Aurier simply because he is a better defender. Sissoko can focus on muscling about in CM rather than covering Aurier. Ndombele the playmaker. Dele to find gaps between their CBs and Moura to go where he wants to find space either side.

Gazza
Foyth Toby Sanchez Verts
Sissoko Dier
Ndombele
Moura Kane Dele

Lamela has to start this one. And thank god Sissoko is back. Winks but no Winks, please. Sessegnon is good (and will come good) but is not working at the moment, so should sit this one out. As for the defence, fuck knows!

I don't think Aurier is playing as bad as people in SC keep saying, but he definitely needs a rest whilst Foyth needs some confidence boost after his mistake last night. In theory, Dier and Ndombele should complement each other quite well in midfield.

......................... Gazza .......................
Foyth.... Sanchez ....... Toby .... Jan
............ Ndombele ... Dier ..............
Moura .......... Lamela ............ Dele
.......................... Kane .........................

Subs: Vorm, Aurier, Sessegnon, Lo Celso, WInks, Sissoko and Eriksen.

It feels like a move towards a 433, with Son still out, for the Southampton game might be best. A midfield three of Dier, Ndombele and Eriksen/GLC with an attack of Dele and one of sissoko or Lucas behind Kane.

Mourinho is still learning about his players and I don’t think it’s a surprise we’ve seen a few formation changes recently with him trying to work out what is everyone’s best role and how to get the most out of them.

Biggest worry we have with Soton is Ward Prose set pieces and Redmond down the wings
These happens to be where we are the weakest even at full strength
