Am I crazy or are all of you? I assumed no chance Romero, VDV, etc play.
I just think because of the lack of defenders people think there is nobody else who can play there. Unless you think Dorrington makes his debut away from home in Europe?

But when you look at the team, one of them sort of has to. 1 of: Udogie, VDV & Romero have to play for us to field a back 4. Udogie went off injured last game, so you'd assume we'd rest him. Basically comes down to the decision to leave out Spence. Had he been available you can put him LB & move Davies in.

It was such an odd decision as we had Vicario starting & Austin & Forster on the bench last Europa game. Whoever thought that was better than Spence in over Forster is an idiot.

I'm not against that...
I love Moore and do think Dorrington can feature further down the line to a degree but ideally you don't give full debuts for kids away from home in the far flung reaches in Europe.

I'd sooner start Werner here and Moore against Brighton at home.

No idea what kind of quality Ferencvaros will be able to field. But if Udogie is fit, I’d play him first half and VDV second half. Let Davies and Romero do central defence. Maybe if we are cruising by half time (ha!) we could blood Dorrington. But let’s be realistic.

I think Romero will be captain, and play. I think VdV rests.

But, we are shockingly thin along the backline - which makes the Spence decision, once again, just borderline insane.

Vicario
Gray Romero Davies Hall
Bissouma
Sarr Bergvall
Johnson Solanke Werner

If we can build a lead, I would take the forwards off first - Lankshear and Moore 1st subs in.

Again, if we get a lead, I'd run the CMs into the ground here for the full 90 - maybe bringing in Maddison to play left wing to give Werner a break.

Maybe Porro fills in at left back on Thursday? That allows Gray rb and Davies cb if Ange is looking to protect Micky.
All depends on how dangerous he views the opponent after scouting reports.

These guys are Hungarian champions aren’t they? They could easily turn us over if we don’t take it somewhat seriously.

Yes, by all means start with one of Moore and Lankshear but we have to field a competitive side here. A loss could cost us dearly in terms of having to play a tricky playoff against a decent side later on in the competition.

I would go:

Forster (probably the best time to rotate and keep him sharp)

Gray
Romero
Davies
Udogie/VDV 45 each

Bissouma
Bergvall
Sarr

Kulu
Werner
Lankshear

Vicario
Porro
Dorrington
Udogie/VDV
Hall
Bentancur
Maddison
Johnson
Son
Moore
Solanke

With a view to having the same starting XI for Brighton as last weekend apart from Son in for Werner and Djed in for Udogie.

Anyone care to give a run down of the opposition?
They lost away to Anderlecht in the first round of EL fixtures 2-1. They were 2-0 down until pulling one back in the 86' after Anderlecht had a red card in the 81'. Of note, they fouled Anderlecht 25 times with 5 yellow cards awarded.

Danny Kelly on VFTL was speaking about some Hungarian bloke, not sure if he is owner of Ferencvaros or chairman of the Hungarian league, and saying that he is football mad and that some of the best players from the surrounding countries' leagues (Croatia, Serbia, etc.) were being recruited to come play in Hungary. Make of that what you will

Think he was talking about Viktor Orban (Hungarian PM), who is football mad, and has invested heavily in their footballing structure.

I’d give Bergvall a run out in this one especially as he got hooked so early in the previous game

I just hope the lesson of not changing too many players at the same time has been learned.

Change a couple, sure. Then, once the game is won, rest some more.
