Yeah he's clearly shit, and you see it whereas the rest of the world sees a talented young player, who's still learning in the thick of the action.

He's obviously not shit (and I hope BC isn't saying that he is) but he does lack the composure on the ball at the moment to play as part of a midfield 2.

It always takes him a while to get the ball under control and I don't think his passing is his greatest asset.

He's best playing in behind the striker, which is a shame because that's also where Eriksen and Lamela are at their best.

For those thinking/hoping Edwards might play, he's been named in the starting lineup for the under 19's game that kicks off at midday.

What I meant was, at the start of the season where Dembele and Sissoko weren't options, we didn't get our tippy-tappy game going at all despite having those players on the pitch that should be able to play that style.

Monaco was the culmination of that, where bar about 15 first half minutes we looked dreadful until Dembele came on.

If we can get that game going then I agree it's both better on the eye and more effective, but it feels as if all of our brutes are out of this game and I much prefer it when we actually have an option either way.

I also want to see a game where Eriksen and Lamela both play at the top of their abilities in the same game. If they don't we always look unbalanced.

How were we ever going to do tippy tappy with a cm2 of Dier and Wanyama though?

I think Dier's passing is under-rated, but I see your point.

Still no excuse for the sideways nonsense we saw from all of our attacking players against Monaco.

I suspect you're probably with me though that none of our central midfielders are really cut out for a passing game. Winks is the most likely to provide that and he's as yet unproven.

But if we don't have those players, we need to use the brawn as well, which is what worries me about tonight as that isn't an option.

That's not what I said or what I mean. He is clearly a talented young player, but he can bumble a bit, as can Son, Kane and Lamela, but none of those are likely to play in CM instead of Winks, which is the point I was making in response to someone claiming the rather tenuous "bobbly pitch" as a reason why no to pick Winks - who imo is more technically sure footed on the ball in midfield than Alli is (as is Onomah imo).

Most of the time I really enjoy reading your posts. But your incessant negativity towards the same players suggests you often try align the content of your posts with your previous postings, to prove that you were right all along. Thankfully though, you aren't the manager. :)

To keep the thread on track, I'd like to see this team.

Lloris

Walker Alder Vert Davies

Wanyama Alli

Lamela Erik Onomah
Janssen

It might be tempting to rest Son tonight, but I'd keep him in the team to make the most of his current form. He was rested at the start of the season, so I'd like to think he's fresh enough to play.

It's only a 4 hour flight, really shouldn't be too damaging to the squad

it's not just the flight time, if they travel home tonight after the game they won't be home in England till around 4am, then they need to travel home, unwind, sleep then re-adjust there sleep before returning to training Thursday.

it's a valid point but I feel the Russia games twist this a little bit. I.E don't take him half way round the world and not play him as the flight/time will mess the players up a bit anyway. If this was Spain/France you can leave a player on the bench but not sure if it works for russia

I mean I would start him, not take him along as a sub.

Winks Wanyama Onomah

Sissoko Janssen Nkoudou

So does this team look so catastrophic now ? Especially if we chuck Lamela back in because of Sissoko's injury ?

Did Winks look like CSKA could scar him for life ? Would Onomah have offered any less than Alli did ? Seriously ?

That team would have lost.

So to me yes it looks fairly catastrophic.
