No. If I was kidding, I'd start with: 'Why did the chicken cross the road?'

Seriously though, I take your point. Hence, why I said, 'something completely different'. I just feel that the team needs a huge shake-up. Rattle the cages. Give them something else to consider and focus on.

Is it right? I highly doubt it. But the point being that we need to find a way to play to the strengths of the players we have. And for now, when I look at NDombele, I see a player who is actually quite brilliant in the opposition half. But because of the limitations of his fitness, he's vulnerable in transition, and seems to run out of steam after a half of football. So, why not focus on his strength? Put him at the center of an attacking midfielder 3 behind Kane. Or, something along those lines!

I'm loving Ndombele. He and Son must be in our starting eleven.

After Kane, Son is by far out biggest goal threat. He's a must start.

If Dier is fit I'd like to see him back in the hybrid CM/CB role. That allows us to switch to a back 3 but offers some protection on the flanks which would suit KWP better. I have my doubts about Dier's fitness though tbh and thought he looked pale and unwell sat on the bench. I also looked pale and unwell, but only in the second half.

I'd bring Sanchez back in for Vertonghen and give Davies a run at LB.

Bring on 'some of our own'
KWP, Skipp, Parrott, Winks, Tanganga and HK
Bench the inept and doubters.
.
Half a team whose loyalty is assured
and if Brighton put up a wall
all those boys will run through it.

3-4-3:

———————— Lloris
———— Dier —— Toby —— Jan
KWP — Ndombele — Sissoko — Davies
——— Son ——— Kane ——— Lamela

Highly optimistic but I want us to go back to a system in which we played our best football. 3-4-3, especially with a utility player like Dier, allows us to easily transition between formations. If we’re struggling to break down Brighton, Dier can move into midfield and push one of Sissoko/Ndombele forward. Having three CBs would allow our full backs to push up down the wings and stretch their defence, giving more space for the likes of Son, Kane and Lamela to operate in.

It worked to spectacular effect a few seasons ago. Bring it back.
I’d also go with a 3-4-3, but I’d put Davies CB on the left and Rose out on the wing. I fully acknowledge Rose hasn’t been great of late but with three at the back he won’t have as much pressure on him as a defender.

I’d put Dier and Ndombele in the middle, Sissoko at right wingback, with Kane and Sonny up top with Lamela in the hole. That actually underutilises Sissoko a little, because his strength won’t be used quite as effectively, but needs must.

That would hopefully give us some width and Dier can be on hand both to try and break up play if it comes through the middle, but also slot back into defence if the CBs spread to cover the wings.

Lamela in the hole to link up with Ndombele to move the ball forward when needed while both can also feed the forwards from their relative positions if needed. Lamela’s harrying of the opposition would also help to win back possession.

I’d also keep Kane a little deeper than Sonny and let him hunt the ball if he wants. Keep Son up top to pounce on any balls over the top or switches of play where he can use his pace to open up the box.

Four. Three. Fucking. Three

Pace, creativity and more importantly, defensive steel.

I can't count... But maybe we count try and get an extra midfielder on?

My XI :

Lloris
Sissoko,Toby, Vertonghen,Davies,
Dier, Ndombele,
Lucas, Dele, Son,
Kane

IMO, Sissoko is our best RB. Eriksen, Rose, Winks, Lamela benched.
Once LoCelso comes back, I would play him for Dele (if Dele hasnt picked up his form by then)

Actually , I agree with him 100%. My XI for Brighton has Sissoko at RB. No questions - he is our best RB currently. Dier can play CM
A sad state of affairs when our 'best RB currently' is a player who has to my knowledge, never actually started a match at RB here.

I genuinely was gutted when they announced that during commentary on Tuesday. It’s so much easier just following it on live score as I can at least focus on other things. The problem with the early kick off is that it’s sets you up for a shit weekend. From memory we’ve lost against Leicester, Bournemouth, West Ham and Burnley in the last 5 times we’ve been the early kick off. Of course it can go the other way like when we beat Huddersfield but I’m really not confident anymore.

Gonna have to go out and occupy myself. Trouble is I’m going to be hungover so won’t really want to leave the safety of the house. I just can’t face it though at the moment. Will probably change come kick off but at the moment it’s hard to get up for it.

Question: how does this give us more steel than the diamond? Is it simply because Lucas and Son will be expected to track back?

Personnel are not that relevant this weekend. Nor is the result. The two key indicators that will show if Poch can turn this around will be:

1. Formation
2. Effort

If I was Levy I'd be watching purely with those two things in mind. If we see a diamond and another half arse showing then Poch needs to be cut loose a.s.a.p. If we see a return to 4-2-3-1 and the players buying into it then the job can be his for a lot longer.
If we play 4231 and we are losing and Poch changes to a diamond to win the game ????
