Reminds me I must go through this thread after line up is announced and see if anyone got it right. Not optimistic.

Reckon we should eliminate positions that are severly lacking due lack of strikers and pending how we pick team it's either 2 or 3 positions with Kane, Son, Sessegnon and Sissoko out and Foyth and Lamela probably unfit to start.

Lloris naturally starts and Toby and Sanchez seem like best cb pair at the moment, though there are options for bit underperforming Toby. Davies and Aurier are only proper full backs available, though Tangana migjt come for either, but reckon it'll be Lloris - Davies, Toby, Sanchez, Aurier. As for midfield 2 Winks and Lo Celso seem to be easily best working partnership at the moment. Lo Celso can play elsewhere, but that would weaken our central midfield pairing too muchh, so go for Winks and Lo Celso there.

For further positios Dele is best employed behind proper striker, but we don't have one and he doesn't work that well behind some winger as makeshift striker so we will be lacking in any case for those two positions. Now playing Moura / Bergwijn up front with Lamela, Son and Sessegnon unable to start would weaken flanks too leaving 3 positions lacking, so would go for Moura and Bergwijn on the flanks making it Winks, Lo Celso - Bergwijn, ?, Moura - ?.

Now that we don't have striker, Alli isn't that great option as behid striker, would go for him as makeshift striker leaving Ndombele to take his position leaving Lamela to come in for flanks or Ndombele, hopefully Parrott to come up front dropping Dele to his natural position. Gedson might give some option too in case we are losing.

Good but I think we need Tanganga at LB to match Adama's pace. Verts did play there in the first leg though, didn't he - Did a pretty good job against him. Not sure we can start Davies against this team. So I'd go

Lloris
Tanganga Alderweireld Sanchez Verts
Winks
Gedson - Ndombele
Lo Celso - - Bergwijn
Lucas

I’m more going for the fact that whichever fullback we play is likely to get roasted down that side, so Tanganga at least offers an solid option to win headers when crosses come in. Additionally, I actually think Tanganga offers a fair bit going forward but only from the right, while Davies can play those cute angled passes that could set off Bergwijn and Lucas on the counter.

I could be talking bollocks

On that basis why not put Kane or Son in.

Because Lamela is for all intents and purposes available, those two are not.

He's not available for all intents and purposes as he's not available to start.

Hopefully Mourinho will realise that we cannot keep clean sheets however deep we defend, and that we cannot score goals unless we get significant possession in the final third. So the best form of both attack and defence in the current climate will be to control the midfield and not let the other team have the ball. If we play a low block against Wolves and let them have the ball, and try to hit them on the counter when they make a mistake, at home, then we will get well beaten.
