Same team as yesterday but I'd swap Jan for Sanchez/Tanganga and Winks (obviously) for Gedson. Put Alli up front and Moura on the right wing

Lloris
Tanganga Alder Sanchez Sess
Ndombele
Lo Celso Gedson
Moura Dele Son

I'm only advocating Aurier be rested because I want Tanganga and Sanchez in the rotation but felt we're not at a place yet where we could have that as the cb pairing along with Sess at FB. So thought this would be a good chance to give Aurier and Lamela a rest but without the quality dropping to a point where we shouldn't get a result.

Does this have the potential to go to a replay? If so park the bus and get them back to the lane by which time we’ll hopefully have a striker.

I might be wrong, and taking this seriously when I think it's tongue in cheek, I don't think you can play a player in a replay that couldn't play in the first leg. I might be wrong though.

it wasn’t said in jest, I feel that our only way to win this tie is if we take it back to a reply. I didn’t know about the rule you said above though which is a shame.

I want to see Skipp given a runout at the base of midfield. It doesn't appear likely that we're going to get a DM in, Dier has shown nothing to suggest he will recapture his best form, and Winks is now out with injury. Unless Jose thinks he can shape Gedson into that role, we need to at least give a shot to the one player in the squad who might be capable of fulfilling it properly, shielding the back line and providing a platform for the more expressive midfielders to play off of.

Highly doubt we'll see it, but Skipp should be given a chance to stake a claim just as Tanganga has been IMO. We're crying out for a player in that role.

Do we know for certain Ben Davies is still unavailable?

I think Jose will want to make us very hard to breakdown and will likely play a pretty strong team.

Not sure why so many are picking Sess to start. He really had a shocking game against the Canaries, and we know how risk-averse our Jose can be. So, not sure I see it happening. Which could mean a return of Jan at left back.

I would go with:

Lloris
Tanganga - Sanchez - Toby - Sessegnon
Skipp
Fernandes ----- Lo Celso
Dele ------- Lamela -------- Son
Gazza, Aurier, Cirkin, Dier, Ndombele, Lucas, Parrott

I want Sess to get another opportunity to learn at LB and want to see what Skipp can do in a 3 man CM. Also want to see what Fernandes can do from the start.

I would have Lamela as the striker (as a false nine) leading the press and Son and Dele making runs in behind.

I'd go with...

Lloris
Aurier - Sanchez - Toby - Tanganga
Gedson - Lo Celso - Ndombele
Dele - Son - Sessegnon

If Davies is fit, I'd give Aurier a rest and place Tanganga at RB.

Lamela needs a rest, as does GLC but we can't afford him not to play.

This is the team I would really love to see. Injury and fitness permitting, this team potentially could beat any team including Liverpool!

Lloris

Sanchez _ __ Toby __ __ Tanganga

Aurier _______Lo Celso___________Ndombele_____________ Sessegnon

Lucas _ __ Lamela __ __ Son

Feel like one of Lucas or Aurier probably needs to rest. Toby might as well. Not sure we can afford it though. Would love to see Ndombele start and get 60' or so...or at least come off the bench for the last 30'. Southampton are playing really well since their formation switch, have a feeling we'll need a good performance to get something out of this.
