Lucas Dele Son
Subs: Gaz, Foyth, Vertonghen, Dier, Fernandes, Lamela, Parrott

I'd start Coco, but I think he needs to be rested as he regains his fitness

Play Lamela as a false 9 as we did when we beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge when Kane was missing from his first ankle injury.

I know he said he doesn't want to heap pressure on Parrott by having him replacing Kane, but I really would like to see him start against Southampton. He can't be worse than having no striker. You can get by with a false 9 like Moura or Son when you have control of a game and are playing well, but we aren't doing that. We control games until the opposition decides to press, at which point we panic.

As to the midfield, well it's dreadful. We really need an anchor man for this one, yet Dier literally plays with all the agility and finesse of an actual sea anchor. GLC was excellent but we have to be careful not to burn him out, as Jose alluded to in his post match presser last night.

Therefore:

Gazza

Aurier
Sanchez
Toby/Jan
Sessegnon

Ndombele
Gedson

Lamela
Alli
Son

Parrott

4-2-3-1: Lloris - Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga - Ndombele, Skipp - Gedson, Lo Celso, Son - Lamela.

Subs: Gazzaniga, Vertonghen, Sessegnon, Dier, Dele, Lucas, Parott.

This is how I’d line up. Aurier is doing really well at the moment, Sanchez is better than Vertonghen and I like Toby more with fast players around him. Especially facing Ings and Redmond.

Ndombele is key, give him the first 65 min. I don’t think Ndombele/Gedson is a partnership that’s ready yet. They’ve barley trained together. I want to see Skipp ahead of Dier. We need some sort of balance so one of them should start.

Dele looks in need of rest. Give him 10 days without a game now that we’ve got the chance. Lo Celso must play, I’m interested to see Gedson in action. Let’s hope Son gets going and going on a spree. Lamela as a false nine as mentioned above. Think that will make us tick more than with Son or Lucas up top.

---------------------Lloris----------------------
-------Tanganga--Sanchez--Alderweireld--
--Aurier---Ndombele--Lo Celso-Sessegnon
----------------------Dele---------------------
---------------Parrott------Son----------------

Subs: Gazza, Verts, Dier, Skipp, Gedson, Lucas, Lamela

Alternatively with Winks out:

-----------------------Lloris----------------------
--Tanganga-Sanchez-------Alderweireld---Sess
-----------------------Foyth-----------------------
----Aurier----Ndombele-----Lo Celso----Son----
------------------------Dele------------------------

Subs: Gazza, Verts, Dier, Gedson, Lamela, Lucas, Parrott

Maybe Skipp for Foyth.

Ndombele, Lo Celso and Gedson in midfield is the way forward. High energy players with great skill sets. All good passers of the ball.

In the absence of a centre forward we should really play Lamela or Dele as a false 9.

Dele should be as far away from build up play as possible and needs to concentrate on getting in and around the box.

His goal is a prime example of what he is best at.

Lloris
Aurier Tanganga Toby Sessegnon
Ndombele Gedson
Lamela Lo Celso Son
Dele

I don't understand " false number nine" does he tell lies or something .
Seriously can some one explain how a false no9 operates ?

A "False 9" basically stemmed from that brief moment when Barca were playing Messi as a CF. So it's basically someone who isn't a traditional centre forward, usually a winger, or maybe an attacking midfielder being employed as the striker/centre forward. So for us that would be Lucas. He isn't a striker, but he's employed in that role due to the fact we have zero other options.

My guess for how we'll line up vs SCBC

Gazzaniga - Jose has made it clear Hugo is his number 1 but went out of his way last night to mention Gazza and it being harsh on him.

Aurier Sanchez Toby Tanganga - I think Jose was saving JT and DS for this one.

Ndombele/Gedson, Lo Celso - Running out of options here

Lamela, Dele, Son

Moura

I'd personally like to see us go with a 3 man midfield with Ndombele, Gedson and Lo Celso, in the hope of gaining some control of the game. I'd either drop Moura or play him wide left. Son has to be the ST unless we want to experiment with Dele or Lamela as the furthest forward.

Most important thing is pace at the back. We got beaten by a simple ball over the top Ings was able to run onto because we played Jan and Toby together. Sanchez or Tanganga need to be in the back line to deal with that. Ideally Sanchez at CBL and Tanganga at LB

----------Loris------------------
Aurier Toby Sanchez Tanganga
---------Gio---Ndom(Gedson)---
----Moura Lamela Dele-----
--------------Son---------------

Happy to put Dele at 10 and leave out Lamela for Sess, too.
