For me Dier is just not performing to the level required and as for Eriksen how would you feel if left out for him ?
If I was a player I would not take too kindly to missing out for a man who wants away and when he does play ambles thru the game with little or no commitment . Surely Winks / Skip / Lo Celso are more committed options as I say only my opinion.

Here’s the team that I’d like to play against United but I know it’s not going to happen

Gazza

Aurier - Sanchez - Toby - Verts

Ndombele - GLC

Moura - Dele - Son

Kane

Subs - Whiteman, Foyth, Sissoko, Tanganga, Parrott, Winks/Skipp, Sess

I'd imagine it'll be

Gazzaniga
Aurier Sanchez Alderweireld Vertonghen
Dier Winks
Lucas Dele Son
Kane

Would personally like to see GLC in ahead of lucas as he has the potential to play that inside right role nicely, only other one would be ndombele over winks but harry is more tried and tested in the PL and probably gives a bit more defensively. would be interesting if we swapped the attacking full back over to the left and played sessegnon and foyth, but that's probably an experiment to be tried on lower quality opposition

I may be out of step with a lot of people on here but I don’t want Winks anywhere near the first team. He is not nearly creative or defensive enough to be in the team.

--------------Gazza-------------
Aurier-Toby-Sanchez-Vertonghen
-------Lo Celso--Ndombele-----
-----Moura----Alli-----Son------
---------------Kane-------------

No point in Dier since he doesn't protect defence well and we are leaking goals anyway, everyone knows we can't keep a clean sheet so we might as well have some creativity. If we really need a DM to cover for Aurier and others then I'd rather see Foyth or Skipp there. One of the midfielders would stay back when other moved forward, similar to what we did with Mason and Bentaleb.

For me Winks is a must he is a player that keeps the ball and is always available to receive a pass from a teammate to relieve pressure.
His so called limitations are due I am sure to his playing to his managers instructions .
Note his goal for England when released from his ( play in midfield shackles ) and if allowed to venture further forward he will I am sure be able to add to his assists to teammates and score the odd goal . This will not happen if he is limited to where he plays on the field .
It would be ironic if he was seen as a midfield all rounder by Southgate and a key player but discarded by Tottenham as a limited player.
If he gets the hump if he is pushed aside as a limited player as I am sure he would seek to move and for a player with so much potential and spurs in his heart it would be a gigantic error by our club. Those that would pick Dier over Winks does not register with me as Dier has been dire.

Methinks JM has serious unfinished business here - he will play the strongest side possible.

I would like to see:

Gazza
Aurier - Toby - Sanchez - Verts
Dier
Sissoko - Ndomblele
Son - Kane - Alli

Winks and Moura to come on in the second half. Alli can also drop back into CM.

Unchanged. From Saturday then. That makes sense

I don’t think Dier will start. He was hooked because he was horrendous against Olympiakos.... whatever Jose said afterwards. And he was always starting the next game against Bournemouth at home so as not to destroy his confidence. Mourinho can ‘rest’ him for freshness mid week and play better players without raising any issues about Dier’s future.

I agree with this as long as Ndombele is the one to receive the ball from the centre backs if they choose to pass short

The only other player of his type is Skipp and Wanyama. It's a terrible situation to be in.

I think Dier would be OK if he just concentrated on the holding role. The problem with a pivot setup is that he's expected to be creative as well, and in the last couple of games it's led to him being way out of position with zero recovery pace. I'd like to see him in a CM3 with Ndombele one side and Lo Celso the other, just holding the fort while they pull the strings. I know it somewhat resitricts our attacking options but I think our biggest issue at the moment is the number of chances we give up. I think Dier would grow in confidence if he could just have a game without at least one bad mistake although I also think a quality DM is top priority for January as things stand.

I think we will see Jose’s first pragmatic team selection. I think we’ll revert to a 4-3-3 with Sissoko, Dier and Winks supporting Dele, Son and Kane. I think Aurier will still provide the width on the right, but more conservatively.

Which is good, we should be targeting their left side anyway. AWB will probably handle Son fairly well but on the left they will have old Young, fat Shaw or inexperienced Williams.

Anyone got any thoughts on a bar / pub to watch this in town? Soho / west end. Ideally somewhere that won't be too rammed / mental

Cheers

Please let GLC start and show us why we signed him. Feels like we have a top quality CM on the bench while Sissoko and Dier keep getting starts.

Yes, Sissoko's goal was good.
