If Eriksen, Toby or Rose are in the team (or even squad) then Poch has not turned the corner.

Gazza
Aurier Sanchez Verts Davies
Sissoko Ndombele
Lamela Dele Son
Kane

Subs: Vorm, KWP, Foyth, Sessegnon, Dier, Lo Celso, Parrott

Winks dropped completely?

The fact is Sanchez plays better on the right of Jan than he does either side of Toby. We’ve got to rebuild his confidence for the future.

Been saying this for a season now. Toby isn't a leader. Sanchez has gone backwards next to Toby, but next to Jan looks so much better.

Im a big believer in Sanchez. Needs to start at RCB for now on. Preferably next to Jan or Foyth. A really good CB and is the centerpiece of our future back 4. Ill thank Toby for keeping his head down through all this and always love him and respect him for it but its time Sanchez takes his place.

I'm thinking last week Man Utd went with 5 at the back. Pretty sure Pochetino would rather be boiled alive than play that way, but how about a 4-3-3?

------------Gazza-------------
Aurier Sanchez Vertongen Davies
Sissoko Winks NDombele
Sonny Kane Dele

subs: Vorm Toby Lo Celso Moura Eriksen Dier Lamela
COYS!!!!!!!!!!

Poch has set up with the 5 at the back several time against good teams.

It's also rarely worked, unfortunately.

Lo Celso and Sess to come in for Winks and Davies when fit, a new RB needed, a new DM if Dier doesn't get back to full fitness, cover for Verts and we are ready to go

Fitness permitted, I'd be fucking fuming if this isn't the side.

This is the team going forward bar the odd change.

Totally agree with this, unfortunately for Winks he needs to be on the bench for Liverpool.

I love Winks, however our midfield was much more balanced against Red Star without him in the mix.

Let's keep some consistency for Liverpool, and then see how we can work him into the squad for our next fixture.

I’d also agree here. The best remedy for a poor defense(which ours is) is a good attack. For that, the ball needs to keep moving forward and quickly. Winks, for me, doesnt play the forward pass as often as we need and has slowed down the transistion from back to front a bit lately. Plus if we’re still insistent on Sissoko being a starter in CM(something I do not agree with), Winks shouldnt be near the preferred XI.

For all that Sissoko brings to the table as a player, he does not fit into our CM for every opponent and he is by no means a CDM (position he filled against Red Star) I see his future with us as a RWB.

He can transition into this position when we need someone more defensive and industrious. He spent most of last season covering for Aurier and Trippier when they left gaping holes after bombing forward so it’s not the worst idea while we try find a proper RWB.

Winks is not playing in his best position and gets castigated for Poch’s failure to play A Dier type player in front of the back four. If he did you would see him operate like he does for England and would get better the more he played that role. The biggest problem is Poch’s failure to use the whole squad in a proper rotation process. That has always been one of Poch’s downfalls. This leads to tired players which we have seen every year of his tenure.

To say Wink’s should be no where near the first 11 is laughable. There is no such thing as a first 11. You win nothing with a first 11. You stand a chance with a first 23.

Fully support going 3 at the back for this one. You lot seem to forget that every time we have played 4 at the back with a high press we have been torn a new one.

I don't think people necessarily are bashing Winks, they see him as a lightning rod for whether Poch has realised the folly of his diamond with Winks at the base of it since February (coinciding with our very poor form). So the starting XI on Sunday will be a real indicator of whether Poch got lucky on Tuesday or whether he has realised what he needs to do to turn this around. If Eriksen, Alderweireld, Rose (i.e. those who want out and should be frozen out) or Winks (not a DCM!) starts on Sunday then we are in probably in for a long and bumpy winter. I really hope Poch has realised he hit upon his best formation on Tuesday and ensures that the in-form players are on the pitch (i.e. not Winks).

Given it is Liverpool away then maybe he should ensure that Dier is in DCM and can drop into CB as a three at the expense of on of our attacking players.

I like Winks, his effort and determination is unquestionably top drawer, and he has a future with us. He just needs to be rested whilst Poch sorts out the mess he has created.

If we go with Ndombele and Sissoko as a 2 in midfield we will be taken apart. Winks has to come back in.
Red Star were crap, but they won’t be in the return leg.

It's tough this one. Realistically, the formation we played against Watford is better-suited to Liverpool away. Playing 3 at the back against Watford at home was a terrible decision, as shown in our marginally better 2nd half performance and our 5-0 win in midweek against similar/worse opposition.

However, given the recent run of form, does Poch dare change the formation? I think not. Because in that case everyone will harp on about changing a winning team in the event of a defeat.

The Tuesday formation and team however, may be a little too open for such a game IMO.
