Has he said that NOW, I mean, in today’s press conference after the Son’s injury was reported?
Yes. He’s also not training with the first team today. Dont count him as an option. Jose has made that abundantly clear.

Leipzig press high. We will sit deep with what Mourinho calls a « low block » and play long balls to bypass the press and hit on the counter. Balls will be played to run into rather than aimed at a nonexistent cf. Probably in to the half space between fullback and centreback.

Less sure on formation but in a sense in won’t matter what it says on the graphic before the game. It’ll be about get to by the transitions right.

Shame Sissoko is unavailable. He would be the closest replacement-wise to what we needed from Son in this game in regards to pace and ball progression via dribbling, plus counter attacking threat (finishing obviously a different story). None of the players we can bring in (Lamela/Gedson/etc) are really a threat in 1v1s/pace.

Back 5 as Sunday
Lo Celso Winks Fernandes
Moura Alli Bergwijn

All about movement for the next few months. If we get it right, can be hard to defend against.

Wonder if we would try out the Atletico style 4-4-2 with Gedson and Sessegnon as wingers? Not for this game but might be worth exploring at some point.

Until Ndombele is fit...he is not starting for me.
Without Son & Kane, only way to win games IMO, is to defend better.

Concede less goals, means , lesser number of goals required to win.

My XI for Leipzig & Chelsea :

Lloris
Aurier, Tanganga,Toby,Sanchez,Davies
Lo Celso, Winks, Dele
Lucas Bergwijn

Lucas & Bergwijn to play wide forwards. Dele/Lo Celso tuck in and take turns being false 9. Playing long balls to Lucas is just counter productive. I would rather play them like 2 forwards wide apart. Like, how Hodgson played Zaha & Townsend upfront. Or like how Nagelsmann played Nkunku, Werner against Bayern.

If Ndombele is fit to start, then I would drop Aurier or Davies for him and go back4

Interesting splits between the groups warming up:

Group 1: Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Davies, Dier, Winks, Lo Celso, Alli, Bergwijn, Moura, Lamela
Group 2: Sess, Ndombele, Skipp, Gedson, Vertonghen, Tanganga, Cirkin, Fagan-Walcott, Wanyama

I agree but dont understand that. Our midfield is actually our strong point... so to bypass it just seems ludicrous....
