Much rather eriksen or Alli partner either of them.

I think it will be a mixture coming on from the bench. Will depend on how the game pans out!
Do I get a badge for stating the bloody obvious ??

Have either Alli or eriksen in the midfield two, then take them off after 60-70 minutes.

London derby against the pikeys & a CL semi final coming up though mate, and we've already got enough absolutely key players missing.

Does Foyth playing against a pretty toothless & poor Brighton side tomorrow night really put you off so much, that you'd risk more key players getting injured & potentially be missing for those games?

I never said anything about Foyth...

Yep, no idea whatsoever why I mentioned him.

I'm sure it's nothing to do with being sat here rolling a 'Marley Mellower' because I bloody blazed through the one I'd made for after the Chelsea match has finished. :cautious:

But do you agree with my point though, re key players, pikey derby & CL semi?

Seemed okay against Sterling on Sat, Sanchez, Trippier, Dier, Aurier all have mistakes in them too, shall we not play them?

Huge difference making those mistakes at right wing back with three centre backs in place to cover him, or making them the moment someone bursts into the box.

I've kind of come to the conclusion that you enjoy a bit of a ruck.

Not overly, I just don’t mind speaking sense even when sense is unpopular.

If you want him dropped for that reason, what makes you think he won’t do it again next season.

By your reasoning, we might as well sell him off in the summer then.
Surely ‘dropped’ implies he’s first choice. He’s not, so therefore all I want, when all players more suited than him are available, is for him not to be prematurely promoted ahead of them.

And no, I don’t want him sold, I rate him very highly, but I don’t think he’s ready and don’t think high pressure games during which a costly mistake will have a far bigger impact on both our season and his confidence are appropriate for giving him ‘learning time’, particularly with our squad decimated by injuries. We need as many of our experienced players out there as possible.

Foyth can play when we’re on form with our key players fit by and large, and be built up to being thrown into the pressure cooker. Right now we have two of the vest centre backs in the league and another high quality centre back (with a World Cup campaign behind him) available, there’s no reason to put this kind of responsibility on a kid who has a rash moment for every classy moment.

Yes, he was fantastic against Chelsea at home. We were on great form at the point, Chelsea being our eighth win in nine league games, exactly the circumstances where you can give a young player a learning experience against high level opposition without overly risking the points.

As you mentioned that we have a number of injuries, so we need to rotate some players, especially as we practically have a game every 3 or 4 days until the end of the season. I wouldn’t consider Foyth as a poor or risky player against Brighton.

I also wouldn’t consider Brighton as a high pressure game, much more so now that our other top four rivals have all dropped points this week and keeping us still comfortably in 3rd place.

I think Brighton would come here with the main target of all out defending to gain a point. If they go all gungho, our attackers are going to punish them (not that they won’t anyway).

Based on the results over the past few days, I would hope Poch goes as strong as possible.

A win would really take us to the precipice of a top4 finish so absolutely no risks.

Dier, Wanyama

Would not start Foyth again this season. His habit of swinging a leg out the moment someone gets past him is not what we need.
Foyth does have a mistake in him but he was excellent on Saturday. He is going to be an absolutely amazing player, but he needs to play to get there.

A player like that is the difference between a good side and an elite one like city, the boy can play. He can carry the ball out and pick a pass. By his very nature he will always make the odd mistake.

I really think we need to be careful with Wanyama now, if anything happens to him in the next two games we won't have a midfield to face Ajax.

Really don't want to see Dier and Wanyama together when we know what Brighton are going to do tomorrow night.

Start Wanyama with Eriksen deeper to get our tempo going, and if all goes well replace Wanyama with Dier later on to build minutes and protect the former.

That's a better argument, why didn't you just say that in the first place?

There's merits to both formations, with 3 at the back you can make it 3-4-1-2 with full backs playing high up the pitch, like wingers. Also that formation supports 2 strikers which we will probably need against their deep lying defence.

Bournemouth isn't the best example as they play more expansive and are far more open at the back.

Because i didn't know you was going to come up with Spurs beating Hudds 4-0 as an argument :(
Anyway I will try and simplify it for you, it's just a question of numbers, playing with 2 centre backs marking 1 forward means we can have 8 players in Brightons half, we can still have the full backs pushed up and still play with 2 forwards, so 2-4-2-2 when attacking, playing with 3 centre backs means we only have 7 players in Brighton's half.

Please no.

I know it would make us very pedestrian in midfield, but I think he might do it so we have attacking options off the bench. I don’t want to see him do it and especially if we play a back three as it would be far too defensive, but we are running out of players and if sissoko and winks aren’t fit then who else goes in there? Dele?

Nonsense about Foyth. He’d be fine in a back 3 against Brighton. His comfortable ness on the ball would be valuable in bringing it out of defence and inviting pressure which will create gaps behind him. He has the perfect skill set for this game.

A back 3 would also give our wingbacks very little defensive responsibility and help us to stretch the play. Particularly if we play Llorente up front.

My only demand from the players who get picked, is that we’re not see this as an walk-over and start the game at 80-90 %.

We need to take this as serious as a london derby.

3 points here is massive for us, so hope we show up ready for this game.

It's nothing to do with the amount of players in their half lol ??

The point of playing a back 3 is to allow our wing backs to stretch play which is what you need to do if you're playing a team who bank up. Having wide players will help in pulling their defensive shape out of position. The wingers can stay up the pitch as they are being covered by the wide cb's when they defend so they don't need to rush back.

I know everyone will disagree, but I'd like to see Janssen and Llorente up top together. Brighton aren't going to be coming at us, so I'd keep Son and Lucas on the bench unless we're really struggling late on. Vincent can play those little one twos pretty well, and a team that bus parks would mean his comparative lack of pace wouldn't be a problem. And Fernando would be ideal in the box, both with knockdowns and goal attempts. Son and Lucas will be needed against West Ham, and we can't afford them to get injured. Plus whether he has a future with us, or he's going to be sold, VJ needs to be in the shop window. No one's going for him if they don't see him play.
