Minutes for Bergvall, Gray, Spence, and yes, Mikey Moore off the bench. We need more willing runners, dribblers, creators, shooters. Mikey Moore is brave and Ange needs to stick to his fucking words and reward bravery and give the kid a chance to shine

We are so static. Constipated.
Son is a problem, he’s shot as a winger, but if Udogie would overlap him, and push him more central, this might help.

Shoehorning Son into the team, I’d go 3-5-2 with Son and Dom as the two. We could put together any combo of our midfielders/Lb/Rb (so many permutations!!).

We have some good players, but the system is looking so bad atm, and has done since December last year.

I think our players are so much better than they are showing, but look awful trying to play a system that looks congested and does not suit them. All looks a little bit like England Euros under Southgate, with square pegs etc

Always was. so many happy clappers were lauding it as brilliant with it was disastrous
Yeah the only thing to counter act it is the fact that hardly anyone really has improved. Perhaps they have in overall depth, but not much that improves their first 11s.

I know it won’t happen, but I’d like to see a 3-5-2 as I think it solves a lot of issues we are currently having

Vicario

Romero Dragusin Micky

Porro Deki Biss Maddison Udogie

Solanke Son

* Dragusin is our best aerial defender especially at corners
* We don’t have a natural 6, the 3 CBs compensates for this and puts less pressure on the designated 6
* Our wingers are shit, even worse now Odobert is out. Porro and Udogie as the wide players would provide energy and quality
* Son is at his best, and only really effective now, when he is playing centrally off another striker. Playing in a 2 with Dom Solanke would benefit both players

It’s pie in the sky because it won’t happen, but the system as is isn’t functioning

Even if Ange wanted to shift formations/tactics - we are not doing it this month with 2 games a week - literally no time to implement anything new.

Best we can hope for is some players to understand their roles a bit better, and better execution.

Regardless of people’s views on the transfer window, we gotta crack on.

These have already missed games through injuries….Solanke, Richy, Odobert, Biss etc.

So we will have to utilise every current squad member, and that may mean Reguilon too.

Ange has not found our best midfield blend yet, lots of potential reasons why. But we must give him and the squad time this season.

A handful of new players, players coming back from long term injuries, and a few young fellas too.

Either the players will adapt to what Ange wants, or he alters things to suit the players. Both scenarios could take time.

On a brighter note…Wissa is out, injured.

We were playing 2 games a week when Poch swapped to a 3-4-2-1 in 16/17.

Slightly different scenario - because we were already having the DM drop between the CBs - so the shift in formation was not a radically different formation or tactic to what the players were used to playing. Width still came from the FBs, the forwards were always coming inside.

Now - if we were to switch to 3 at the back - it fundamentally changes where the FBs play and where the forwards play - and who covers what areas of the pitch.

And, we have 3 CBs on the roster - the only sub would be Davies. We don't have the players to make that kind of switch.

True, but we changed from one of our double pivot dropping into the back to make a back 3 to having a back 3 and a double pivot, with our wide players coming in playing more narrow and the FBs pushing up even further, so it did change where the forwards/FBs play and how space is covered.

Not advocating we should change to a back 3, but having only Davies on the bench shouldn't deter us in the short term, since we only have Moore on the bench for the front 3, depend on how long Werner, Richy, Odobert and Lankshear are out (and Kulu plays central).

With two games a week, change should/could happen quicker. Our saving grace is that we have some young, hungry, very adaptable, smart players.

Also Spence, Deki, Bergvall all look good atm. I thought Biss has looked good late last season and early this. It’s not all doom and gloom

Win our next two winnable games, starts to remove some of the grey clouds.

But Bluto is right, moving to a three at the back is a big change, and Ange ain’t ready to give up on his last 18months yet.

Its funny we scored 4 against Everton when Son wasnt left wing.

Now ideally he's no CF either, but its the lesser of two evils.

Solanke needs service and a few goals, but with Odobert now injured we cant even resort to the three who started against Everton.

This is pretty much our worst kind of opposition as they are such a well organized side.

They will field a 5 - 3 - 2 just soaking up pressure and hoofing it to Mbuemo and who ever plays for the injured Wissa (we're very lucky he's out for this). VdV and Vicario has to be on it for this match as they will get several 1v1 chances.

They are also well drilled from set pieces.

It's hard to see us getting much joy here unless we come up with something new (or Flekken does a Pickford and gift us a few goals).

Maybe time to explore some other wide options as Johnson and Werner are simply not good enough. Can Spence do any worse?

Porro - Romero - VdV - Udogie
Gray
Spence - Kulu - Bergvall - Son
Solanke
