Looking at it now I guess that is possible yeah - I could see him putting Deki on the right and if he does that then that opens the possibility of Bergvall in there however then you are essentially picking Bergvall over Maddison in an away north london derby - that is a big call and I'm not sure what Ange will do. I think he will err on the side of caution and select Maddison in that case.

Yeah some interesting selections for sure.

And to be fair Maddison did very well in this fixture last season.

I have a sneaky feeling that Ange might go for :

Biss
Bergvall
Maddison

Kulu
Solanke
Son

That midfield is too lightweight to be going to the Emirates IMO.

Think you need Sarr in there for one of Maddison/Bergvall

It is possible but I think the point I'm trying to make is that Bergvall isn't an automatic choice for this match which appears to be the prevalent view in this thread. He may well start but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he doesn't.

Well I think it's because he played a big role in the defeat to Liverpool. Not the goal, but his all round midfield contribution was evident to all.

But we looked much stronger with him in there.

Felt like he was dragging us up a level as a team.

Well that's why I opted for Sarr instead of Maddison. But the latter's ability to retain possession is a defensive consideration.

With no Saka then I'm tempted to say Reguilon should start as I'd like to see Spence on the right to counter Martinelli's pace - Porro was atrocious yesterday and has just played another 120 minutes of football. Then again Sterling could be dangerous too.

If Bentancur can't play I suspect we'll see a Bissouma/Sarr double pivot - Son-Solanke-Kulu as the front three, and then the call from Ange on whether Bergvall has officially overtaken Maddison in the pecking order...

I've loved what i have seen of Bergvall but i think i would have him coming off the bench here and go with Biss, Sarr and Madders. Just think Bergvall and his exuberance has '3rd minute yellow card' and 'tightrope' written all over him in this one.

So does Bissouma to be fair but i have more faith in him being able to see through 85 mins on a yellow!

I'd play Kulu on the right for this one, so for me its between Sarr and Maddison to start, with Bissouma and Bergvall shoe ins.

I'd probably go with Sarr for his work rate, and have Maddison as a good attacking change from the bench.

They've power in there with Rice, Party and Odegard, so need to match that.

Kinksy

Porro
Dragusin
Gray
Spence

Bissouma
Sarr
Bergvall

Kulusevski
Solanke
Son

Subs: Austin, Dorrington, Reggie,
Maddison, Johnson, Werner, Richarlison, Moore, Lankshear
Yeah I'd go with the above, apart from Maddison for Sarr, just think it could be a Maddison kinda game, a little needle in the middle, gain a few fouls, get in their ears etc..

But an onsong sarr, runs like mad, so would be good with your line up as well.

This bergvall off the bench if we're in the game still could be a good move.

Fucking hate this fixture as it’s been a graveyard for us for years. I suspect they’ll target set pieces as their best way to score which does worry me with our current CB pairing. Dragusin will have to be at his best and Spence and Solanke will also need to provide some much needed height in the absence of Bentancur.

I’m dreading it as I suspect it’ll be a low block from them and we know that’s where we struggle.

I’d love to cause an upset but don’t have much hope. Reckon this will be the starting XI:-

Kinsky
Porro
Dragusin
Gray
Spence
Bissouma
Maddison
Sarr
Kulusevski
Solanke
Son

Small chance that Davies is back for this one (not sure if that's found its way in here)

Be good to have Richi back on the bench aswell

- Kinsky -
-Porro - Dragusin - Gray - Spence -
- Bergvall - Bissouma -
- Deki - Maddison - Son -
- Solanke -
I think Bergvall has more legs on him than Sarr right now. I'd therefore go with the above but in reality the actual positional formation on the pitch will end up looking a little more like:

- Kinsky -
- Dragusin - Gray - Spence -
- Porro -------------------------------
--- Bergvall ---- Bissouma -
------ Deki -------------- Maddison -
- Solanke --- Son -
Where we have Porro pushing up the right hand side, doing the crosses we've seen him do in the last couple of games. With Bergvall being the "recovery" player down our right hand side when Arsenal counter us. Bissouma then ends up being a 6 and sitting in front on the back 4 for the most part, with Bergvall again covering for him on the occasions he pushes forward. That also gives the Bergvall the ability to get into attack on occasion too, like he did against Liverpool.

You then have Deki doing a mixture of going out wide where he can either cut back in onto his left in his trademark style or run it to the line and whip a ball across. He can also get involved in some of the midfield battle and help cover back for Porro down our right if needed, especially if Bergvall has pushed on forward.

On the left hand side we then have play out from the back via Spence, who on rare occasion can push forward with his runs and play some slick balls into Maddison or Son. Gray steps in for Spence and then Bissouma drops back a bit to cover for Gray.

Maddison can drop deep and help dictate play as Son will be out on the left, but if Maddison pushes forward on the left it allows Son to get more central and become a more serious direct goal threat, linking up with Solanke at times. Maddison also has the ability and freedom to drop into that central advanced 10 role with Son staying out wide.

Add some long passes from Kinsky into Solanke, who can hold up play and wait for Deki / Son / Maddison to support him and suddenly we're very dangerous looking in attack.

Finally for subs - Sarr can come on for Bergvall if he's looking tired, pretty much like for like replacement there. Probably good to bring Johnson on at some point to really test Arsenal once they get a bit tired, Deki can move central and then hook Maddison. I'd also seriously consider Moore coming in at around 75-80 mins. He's shown he can bring some serious intensity for short bursts, and bringing Son off for him at that point in the game, regardless of score makes a lot of sense IMO.

Defensively it will still be tough for us given the players we have available and amount of games they have been playing recently, but if we keep a solid shape and keep front foot pressure on the goons I think we can get the win.

As good as Gray has been It would be great to have Davies start here (for his experience alone). Where did you see that?

Also Richy on the bench would be great. His height at set pieces could very well be needed!!!

Agree completely with you. Bergvall adds so much control in possession especially when starting next to Kulu/Maddison. In an ideal world we would have Kulu and Bergvall in midfield together but we can't afford to start Johnson LW here imo.

But i'm just curious to see what Ange decides as I wouldn't be surprised if he went with Sarr and Maddison given its tough away game. He may think having Bergvall come on fresh in the second half to open up the game may be more valuable.

we normally need to survive the 60 min I would think being more solid away from home to start with bring on maddison in the second half when the game is stretched could work better

I don't think they'll leave much space behind so I think Johnson and Son would be completely ineffective. Having Madison and Kulu playing off of Solanke could bring us some joy though I hope. I also think having Sarr in the team for his engine and ability to help our Porro with Martinelli will be vital. Otherwise the team picks itself of availability/form.

The only point of contention here is whether Maddison starts ahead of Sarr imo (Bergvall will almost certainly start, as he didn't start yesterday).
