If we owe money from other years then this years spending can be fucked off down the road to be paid for in a few years time. That’s an economic term incase anyone is wondering.

So much information out there about how football works and people are still shook by these things on a daily basis.

Amortisation. Normal. Fricking. Football Operations.

Hate the game.

Should we not be owed a sizeable amount from clubs we have sold to as well then? It’s the difference in the two totals that should be the defining factor.

United owe more and are spending. It's nothing and not an excuse. There needs to be a big spend this summer.

Are they? Lots of noise, but they must sell Rashford, Garnacho, Sancho minimum to be able to complete Cunha and Mbuemo at minimum (? on that if Frank comes).

Our problem is that we don’t pay the wages to attract our top targets and we’re crap at selling so we recoup very little.

I’d actually sell Romero this summer , yes he is our best player but his availability isn’t anywhere near good enough, get the 60 odd million were supposed to be asking for along with money from Solomon, Bissouma , Richarlison and a few others and we should have a nice chunk to spend.

Still excuses. I don't see Liverpool or Arsenal having problems. It's bullshit and you know it.
Yeah of course it’s just an excuse. But it is the reason behind why it’s happening. At other clubs the money guys actually care about winning and are the ones who make the decisions. Our money guy doesn’t care, and the guy who makes the decisions won’t dilute himself.

understood and agreed. Frustrating levy loves a beautiful excel spreadsheet than a trophy.

A nothing burger, what is more likely to hamper purchases is our HG quota for the CL being dreadful meaning we will probably look to move players on before bringing new ones in as we don't want players being unhappy at being left out of the CL squad stinking up the place.

Agreed. Enic have made us a mid-table team, with mid table wages so we might as well start acting like it and be a selling club when it comes to assets who are at the peak of their value. Not nice for us but is Romero supposed to wait around for 10 years to see if we change our wage structure?

The only clubs that aren’t selling ones are Madrid , Barca and the oil ones. Even United have lost top players before, Liverpool built Klopps side by selling a star player.

It’s about being smart and if I’m seeing Romero with two years left, wanting a Spain move and when his availability is already nowhere near good enough I’d absolutely sell for the right price.

More than that though it’s crucial we sell more in general. City and Chelsea do it all the time, Poch famously wanted to do it. If that makes us a mid table club in your eyes then so be it.

I broadly agree. The big clubs like City and Chelsea replace quality with quality and have a core of quality. Slot didn't need to change much of the squad for example. We don't have such a good record. Still waiting for similar quality to Kane, Eriksen, Dembele etc.

Well that’s a different argument. The one I’m making is we should be smarter and sell at the right time. I think when Berbatov and Modric went Levy got a hang up about selling our best players but as you say, it’s not selling them that is the issue, it’s replacing them.

so if we sell Romero and think Danso is the replacement then that’s an issue. Sell him and persuade (for arguments sake as I know he said no) Guehi then I think that’s ok business.

I'm with you unfortunately there's this thing called wages and we're mid-table on that. We might overachieve a bit but I'm guessing our league position will correlate with wages moving forward with someone steady like Frank. Someone like Guehi is likely to go for the bigger wage and who can blame him?

Gray and Bergvall cause a problem because they are both classed as foreign , despite being under 21, because they have not been at the club for 2 years. We just have to suffer it next season as the following season they can go on list B as under 21 so freeing up 2 more places for over 21 places. One further season and they can be classed as club trained , so solving that eternal problem. The season after that Mikey Moore will be of an age to also be club trained, of course he is almost club trained now but still under 21 so doesn’t need to be named in the full squad. Can’t wait to have 3 more club trained!

Why do people think we don’t have cash to spend? The last accounts show we will have plenty this summer. Real problem is the squad make up and who we can register.

(explanation: cash flow out in last year’s accounts was -£100mill in a year we did not have European football and was it £200mill transfer spend? This year, with Europe, and long cup runs, income will be roughly £120mill higher enabling similar spending with no hit on cash flow and with CL money to come. Also low wages/income ratio is actually a good thing for increasing squad quality. Whether we spend and increase wages is another question but we certainly can, with hardly any financial restrictions at all. I noticed a lot of the commentators on our accounts were looking ahead to this summer with the same assumptions contained in last years’ accounts - and they are just not the same this year).
