There was a moment early in Tottenham Hotspur‘s 7-2 annihilation by Bayern Munich which perfectly encapsulated Serge Aurier‘s time in North London.

Shocked he's not been used more already. Amazed when Aurier & Foyth were missing that he had to watch Davinson fill in at RB, twice. Surely, Aurier's last 2 x performances show he's not the long term answer. KWP has done a good job when he's been involved.

I understand he will make mistakes, but he will do more good than bad & will give his all for the shirt. With experience he will become more & more accomplished.

If he ever plays again I will believe the entire coaching staff are scared of him...

As we saw, Aurier is the kind of player that will down tools and get his manager the sack.....if KWP cant get a game now hed be well within his rights to take up another sport!

I've seen enough of Aurier this season to know we need better, but I've not been particularly impressed with KWP either. Unlike last season, he seems to have started dithering around and playing sideways and backwards as a default setting. He's also been easily out-muscled on a number of occasions. It still baffles me how we didn't prioritise RB in the summer window, instead apparently giving the jersey to Foyth off the backk of a 10 minute performance that eneded with an early bath.

In the coaching staff's defense, he's been hurt (think it happened against Newcastle?)

Was thinking about KWP's performance in Barcelona last year in light of the Bayern game. Obviously, his slip against Dembele cost us a goal and made him look overmatched, but he picked his head up and ended up having an okay game, even making a goal-saving sliding challenge in the second half. He responded well to adversity, and that's the kind of attitude I'd like to see injected into the squad on Saturday.

Nothing particularly impressive from KWP's performances the far. I'd still put him the team ahead of Aurier who cannot be trusted to do even the basics.

Neither of them are good enough, the only hope is Foyth is but that remains to be seen.

Wow Aurier's stock fell fast, people were thrilled with him just a few days ago.

It's desperation. I see our RB similar to relationships. We had a great relationship, probably the best it ever was but sadly it ended (Walker) . Towards the end it started to fade though so we were happy to move on with our new partner as they offered something the previous didn't(Trippier) . However when that failed and subsequent relationships proved to be nothing more than 1 nighters (KWP, Sanchez) we were desperate for something more. We got a glimpse of the good times back (Aurier) but it was too fleeting as we were abruptly reminded that things won't work out. That leaves us pining for the old days and casting wandering eyes as anyone who will look our way!

Our problems at RB (and LB for that matter) are the same as they were last year in that the players we have are not suited to the system we are playing. KWP isn't suited to a flat back 4, and Aurier isn't much better. You can't have a fullback constantly bombing up the pitch unless there are players to cover across, as in a back 3. We need to get back to a back 3 for now IMO otherwise we'll continue to ship easy goals. Ideally, Dier or possibly Foyth would revive the CM/CB hybrid role that gave us so much flexibility before. I'm not convinced of Dier's fitness at the moment though. What other reason can there be for not playing him when we've been so defensively weak?

The diamond doesn't help either, in the fact that when they are up the pitch that area is far more exposed due to not having a cm/dm being able to drop in or come across. One ball over the top leaves us scrambling every single time.

Definitely agree about the diamond. It's worked OK in patches, especially at the start of games but it doesn't allow the players to keep it up for the whole 90 and as a result we've been fading badly. Consequently it's very difficult to judge players when we're playing this system. For me, considering we're struggling for DMs, our full backs are probably our weakness and we have plenty of number 10s, the 4-2-3-1 makes the most sense as the primary shape.

Do people not see this as too much of a coincidence that our fullbacks lose form, Erikssen loses form, Alli loses form and the whole team suffers around about the same time that we lose Dembele (sale), and Wanyama and Dier to injury?

We have no player to anchor the midfield. Its simple logic. Our CMs are not positionally disciplined (Winks, Sissoko and Ndombele) they all like to play box to box. So our CBs don't split and our fullbacks don't move up, our midfield gets isolated, and our attack lacks support and doesnt get into attacking positions.

This isnt about Aurier, Rose, KWP being off form, and Sessegnon will be the same because the system exposes that weakness. This isnt about Erikssen being poor and Alli not playing well, because they have both had to adapt their natural games. The biggest thing we can do is get Dier fit and play him in that Anchor role, and either get someone in January or teach Skipp or Winks to play it. Once we have that defensive stability, we will see improved performances from our fullbacks and the rest of the team

Our form has also dropped off since we've been playing fullbacks in a back 4 who are better suited to a back 3 with wingbacks. Trippier was in the same situation last season. I thought when we sold him we were going to bring in a conventional RB (Meunier was my choice) but we've done nothing of the sort and continue to suffer.

Even if we had Cafu, Roberto Carlos or peak Maldini playing full back for us they would all look bad in this set up
