And Lankshear? I expect he will be off to at least a league 1 club shortly.

Just sounds like a clutching at straws attempt at justification imo.

Look, there may be numerous reasons as to why he didn't use some of the younger players, and I expect those reasons probably have merit. As I have said had he not played the very poor Werner and Johnson for as long as he did I probably wouldn't be questioning it tbh, but he did, and there is no way the likes of Lankshear could have been any worse.
Yeah I thought it was very odd to be starting Werner up top rather than giving Lankshear a go.

i dont know if this is itk from eduardosmartez on ftl, or if its from media
Ben Davies may hold the key to a deal for Harry Gray (Archie’s brother) they want a cut price deal for Ben and we want to sign Harry for the future
I don't understand this. Isn't it the same situation as a few years ago when we lost two lads to Southampton?
Sure, we want Harry Gray. But I assume that he hasn't signed papers yet for his Training Contract. And he is far too young to have signed as a professional.
So he should be entirely free to sign for us if that is what he wants to do.
We would have to pay compensation - but it would be fairly small. It certainly would not be worth giving up Ben to try to avoid the payment.
What am I missing here?????

In former academy players news, Keanan Bennetts has joined Austrian side Austria Klagenfurt after six months of being without a club. Relevant in respect of the above conversation; a lot of people were unhappy when Bennetts left and thought he should have been given a chance at the club. At the end of the day the coaches seem to get most decisions right when letting go of a player, whereas we as fans tend to hype up a lot of them and think we are losing huge prospects (Reo Griffiths comes to mind).

Interestingly, Bennetts did say this in a recent interview: "“I had the feeling that I was not pushed as much at times. I would have hoped for more opportunities after my performances. Other players were more in focus.”

I don't doubt the coaches to focus on the development of certain individuals over others, those they see as having a higher ceiling. Not all players can be given first team opportunities/involvement after all.
iirc most were unhappy because he rejected our contract offer. On the other hand, every move/stay decision would have huge impact on the player's career. Maybe they would have a better career if they had stayed, maybe not. Both the player and the coaching staff have their job to do for them to succeed as a football player, whether with us or not

I agree with this.

It's also hard to deny there is some sort of contradiction between how we treat our youth players from young players signed from elsewhere.

Archie Gray is an 18 year old who has been trusted to play in the busiest period of the season out of position in arguably the hardest position in Ange's system. He demands so much from his CBs because of the high line. I think like most people Gray has done a really good job which will only help when he moves into midfield.

However if he was an 18 year old who was in the Spurs academy, he probably would not have seen any starts.

We trust him because Leeds trusted him. Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in the Championship which in turn is one of the most toughest leagues in the world. They didn't hold Gray back because he'd be roughened up. They didn't treat him like a fragile vase who can only be displayed with careful and long deliberation to get the position right the way we tend to do with our academy players.
I mean a big difference there is that Gray has a full season of championship football behind him. It's why getting our guys out on loan is so important

If they are talking about a cut-price deal then it would happen this month as he's out of contract this summer. We'd need to get someone else in for CB if Ben was to leave as we're desperately thin in defence as it is with injuries.

There was talk of triggering the extra 1 year option, the question being, were we keeping him or extracting more of a fee.

On a CB relate note, what's the deal with Archie Baptiste? I thought he was quite highly rated but he doesn't seem to get much of a mention these days. Has he just been overtaken by younger players like Malachi Hardy?

That seems like an expensive way of signing young Gray. We have option to extend Davies contract by 1 year. He's a very good pro and can cover 2 positions we are light in. If Leeds don't come up we could throw cash at Gray and keep Davies.
We need a new LB regardless and we have Vuskovic and Phillips doing very well on loan. It will be interesting to see how Dorrington does too.

We are also bringing in 3 new staff to the physio/medical team, so hopefully will have less injuries going forward.

Man City had signed 15 year old Finley Gorman for 5m from Leeds and it wasn't compensation.

Will make life for Archie's dad easier... he's at every Spurs game, so assume he's then heading up to Leeds to see Harry's u18 games...

Hasn't been a problem so far, as Harry was injured in pre-season and (as was expected given his injury) it looks as though he hasn't played since. Back in the Summer he was expected to be playing again in the new year.

Interesting, thanks. Suggests that the compensation rules are linked to some concept of 'market value'.

Still don't understand how Southampton mugged us off so easily!

i believe the club losing the player can take it to a tribunal and in the mean time prevent the player from playing elsewhere, very messy process and one that clubs tend to want to avoid. spurs could have done that with meghoma and amo-ameyaw but it's too much hassle and we'd stand to gain very little from it in the grand scheme of things, whilst also potentially putting other players off from wanting to sign for us.
