I'm not going to speak about things like ambition because I don't know the players involved, nor how they think or have been advised.

Forster might get injured and that would suck but how many clubs bat deep with the goalkeeping lineup?
(To use a cricket parlance).

I would think that if most clubs get down to their third choice keepers, then the quality drop off is enormous and they are going to be in a certain amount of shit.
And I don't think anyone wants to see Austin or Whiteman starting but again, that's possibly missing the point of why they are at the club.
If we need bodies in the keeper group to assist with training, we're not going to find ambitious players to fill that gap.
And we can't use the talented youngsters because they need loans and game time.
So maybe Austin and Whiteman are kept around for that reason primarily.

So if Fraze does get injured, maybe we then go down the emergency loan route but we're not in that position yet.
(And not Wayne fucking Hennessy for Christ's sake, I'd rather resurrect Michel Vorm! He's probably still in a cupboard somewhere. 😁).
Don’t make excuses for Austin. If you want to be a keeper you need to play. Rather Luca Gunter starts.

Reminds me of Steve Harper, who was Newcastle's club back up keeper for most of his career. 5 seasons (same as Austin is in now) went by without him getting any game before he finally was needed.

Or Scott Carson who has won 2 champions league medals playing only 2 games!

You only need to look at Emile Martinez really, went to arsenal at 18, and by the age of 28 made 15 appearances, his first appearance almost 8 years after signing a pro contract.

Admittedly he had a few short loans, and well now a world cup winner and won best keeper twice in a row.

Perhaps being cynical but these sort of things tend to happen around the time of contract negotiations.

Martinez made his PL debut for Arsenal when he was 22 (in 2014), 4 years after signing for them. He also went on 6 loans playing 63 games before signing for Villa at the age of 28.

Cheers dude, wasn’t sure when he debut was, only that he hardly played for them.

as you said, he went on loan, a lot, even at my sons club.

Looks like this group are getting to know each other and click a bit more.
Playing some nice stuff and it's quite interesting to hear Wayne's instructions from the sidelines.
