Is there a fixture list available for what’s going to be broadcast on Spursplay? I’ve found the service to be a complete waste of my money this year because I’m totally unaware when games I’m interested in are broadcast while I’m actually free to watch them. I went to look for today’s match against West Ham thinking surely that will be broadcast as it doesn’t clash with any PL fixtures but no. Doubt I’ll renew my subscription next year to be honest.

Even if they could recall him I don't think he can be registered until January.
I believe Keeley is already regsitered, since he's u21:

Keeley has played more senior football than Austin and Whiteman, and is 21. He's further ahead than Gunter, Maguire and probably than Austin and Whiteman (though they're senior pros, we all know they never actually play).

Not sure we could recall him until January, but he would be an option then if we needed him, and probably is the next most realistic/capable GK right now after Forster.

Yeah, I'm like that to be honest.
I was really looking forward to watching the youth games this season but have probably managed to catch three at most.
I went looking for this game and nope, it's not on.

I know I'm old and shit at technology but I can never seem to find a schedule for what games they are actually playing and most of the ones I've gone to look for, haven't been on.

I mean 45 quid hasn't really broken the bank and I suppose I've got my money's worth, with the pre-seasons and the couple of games I have seen but I must say that I was expecting to be using it a lot more than I have.

I use Stonehenge for the schedule

The Spurs app has a schedule for what's on SpursPlay but games do get added last minute from time-time. The general rule of thumb; i see is home games under 18s are on Saturday mornings at about 11am. Under 21 for SpursPlay is on Friday nights at 7pm or Mondays 7pm if no other prem games are on. You can always check the Spurs site for fixture listings for the academy teams and try to see on the app if the games is on. I agree it's not ideal but thats how I check whats coming up.

Seeing all this chat about which keeper to promote just hammers home how ridiculous it was to give Austin a 5 year deal in the summer...

It was essentially deals for him and Whiteman to stay and become training ground players. Rather than schlepp around the lower leagues both obviously prefer the steady job the club offered.

Yeah this, to run a decent keeper session you need a few there, otherwise sessions tend to be pretty shit.

I said that in (I think) the Vic thread. Imagine going in to train everyday with basically, Vic, Big Fraze and the keeper coach?
That would be shit.

You can't compare keepers with any other position because they're their own little world and it's a completely different job to "just being a football player".

Austin and Whiteman get well paid jobs, in decent conditions and I wouldn't mind doing that for a living.
They're not costing the club much money and are an essential part of the keeper group, they may play once in a blue moon but that's really not why they are at the club.

Maybe people should look at them more as coaching/training staff, rather than proper playing staff?

One of them might be playing in a prem lge game very shortly. You cannot bank on Fraser not getting injured , he’s old. I don’t want Austin to start a proper game for us when he has shown such a lack of ambition. How about getting out on loan to make a career for yourself. Rather put Luca Gunter in or get Keeley back from Orient in Jan.
The fact that we have 2 keepers, 25yrs old, never started a competitive game for us, is beyond ridiculous. Talk about being in a comfort zone
Wayne Hennessy is available as a free agent.

Potentially mate.

My sons club have training keepers that just go in to train in the sessions (unpaid), usually semi professional guys, in between clubs, or keeper coaches (self employed) that make up the numbers for the sessions, which usually have a minimum of four keepers, but up to 8 in a session with 2 or three coaches.

Thing is, its not possible for a coach to serve for an hour, imagine blasting the ball for an hour solid - it will fuck anyone up, so it needs to be spread out to make sessions worth while.

Its all good and well getting a keeper to move around, but to make it authentic, you need someone who can strike a ball to an almost professional standard and those boys hit the ball at a ridiculous pace.

I rated this funny because Wayne Hennessey is older than forster .....

So thr post just doesn't make sense, sorry dude.

The bit about younger going out on loan, I do agree woth in a sense, it's not easy to get loans and no idea what clubs advise was throughout that period either, likely to have been a promise of minutes pre season, see how yoy get on, then needed as a squad player etc

Thanks for these insights. Really a whole world I know nothing about, even less than I do about other positions on the pitch. The loneliness of the professional goalkeeper indeed.

It's a weird position mate, train away from the squad for thr most part, go in for team sessions or having thr ball pelted at them tbh, but navigating your way is a proper ball ache - managers want experience at said level, which is impossible to get until a ma ager actually gives said experience.

And that's fighting it out with another 7/8/9 keepers too for that one spot!

But, you can earn a good living by being a training keeper too, literally just for diving around the place woth your mates.

I'm not going to speak about things like ambition because I don't know the players involved, nor how they think or have been advised.

Forster might get injured and that would suck but how many clubs bat deep with the goalkeeping lineup?
(To use a cricket parlance).

I would think that if most clubs get down to their third choice keepers, then the quality drop off is enormous and they are going to be in a certain amount of shit.
And I don't think anyone wants to see Austin or Whiteman starting but again, that's possibly missing the point of why they are at the club.
If we need bodies in the keeper group to assist with training, we're not going to find ambitious players to fill that gap.
And we can't use the talented youngsters because they need loans and game time.
So maybe Austin and Whiteman are kept around for that reason primarily.

So if Fraze does get injured, maybe we then go down the emergency loan route but we're not in that position yet.
(And not Wayne fucking Hennessy for Christ's sake, I'd rather resurrect Michel Vorm! He's probably still in a cupboard somewhere. 😁).

I just noticed our PL2 team is 24th out of 26 teams.

Are they really that poor and our depth so bad ? or do we tend to play mostly U/18s in our PL2 team ?

poor group. most of the best players from last year moved on or are out on loan.

we've won two games all season but they were away to chelsea and arsenal so that's something at least.
