he's a club u16 and international u17. club is based on school year(sep-aug), international is calendar year(jan-dec).

Sure, but even still he'll remain eligible for England U17s in Jan-Dec 2025.

So in this case he's playing up an age year with England.

Last season he went back and forth between England U16 and U15.

"next season" he won't be u17 eligible because that will be for 2009 born players, this year is 2008 born.

you can have two players, both born in 2008. one in august, one in september. both will be u17 at international level but at club level the august will be u17 and the september will be u16, it will then appear that the latter is playing up an age group for england but he's not, that is his age group. williams-barnett is an u16 at club but he can't play for u16 at international level, that's for the 2009s. if williams-barnett was born two months earlier he would be in this year's intake(aka u17) and no one would be saying he's playing up a year at international level but as i said club and international age groups aren't aligned.

that's all assuming @charlieGilly is correct in saying his birth date is oct 2008.

btw. last season he didn't jump between u15 and u16. he only played for the u16. i assume that you're looking at his record on transfermarkt which shows him playing against japan u15, which is true but it was still for england u16 (it was a friendly, hence the mismatch).

but if you don't believe me, head over to https://www.bigsoccer.com/forums/england.98/ and ask the youth nerds there.

Interesting, though I'm still genuinely confused by this.

Mikey Moore played for England U17 this summer.

If he can play for the U17 in 2024 as a 2007, how is it LBW couldn't play for the U16 as a 2008, and therefore U17 next year?

Is it to do with the qualification and finals taking place over two calendar years, and UEFA not wanting to break teams apart in each tournament cycle?

In which case wouldn't there be some games he'd be elligible for different age groups, based on the competition?

The info I had on his England U15 appearances came from his instagram, other players, and accounts like englandyounglions. But it's possible they were inaccurate and just tagged players, not sure.

if the player is eligible at the start of the season then they can finish the season, otherwise you would see loads of players getting kicked out of squads halfway through the campaign.

mikey's a 2007 so last season he was an england u17, this season he will be an england u18(though i suspect given his ability he will bypass the 18s and go straight to the 19s as it's a more important age group given they have the euros). williams-barnett is a 2008 so he is one international age group below mikey, so he will be in the u17s. at club level however he's still an u16 as he was born after the aug 31st cut off. malachi hardy is part of the same england age group as williams-barnett but a year above at club level as he was born in march.

the long and short of it is he is playing at his age group for england but playing up for spurs.

Wow, good for Ipswich and good for Clarke.

And good for us I suppose, walking away with an easy 5m if that's how this pays out.

I winner’d this then realised we bought him for 11m so probably still made a loss.
We never paid that. It was reported as up to 10m. I would suggest none of those add ons were ever paid as he virtually never played. Sell on has also been reported as 40%. We should get at least 5m if it’s 25%.

What’s the latest on Devine? Still expecting a loan out or is he going to get a chance?
