For CL/EL/ECL, homegrown ("HG") includes 2 groups, association trained ("AT") and club trained ("CT"). AT refers to players that are registered with other clubs in the same association (same country for easier understanding) for 3 years from 15 to 21, e.g. Maddison, Davies, Johnson, Spence, Solanke. CT refers to players that are registered with the club for 3 years from 15 to 21, e.g. Austin, Whiteman. The maximum amount of players in List A is 25. 8 out of 25 need to be HG. The 8 players should include 4 AT and 4 CT. If you don't have enough HG players then the size of your squad is reduced.

List B includes U21 players that are, from 15 to 21:-
1. eligible to play for the club for any 2 consecutive years, e.g. Lankshear
2. 3 years with a maximum of 1 loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year

I think for Saliba they registered him in PL squad and then loaned him out so that he qualifies as CT. But then they had a smaller squad for PL as they used a slot for him

Can you register the same player for two different teams at the same time?

Just checked the arsenal squad for 2019/2020, saliba didn’t get a squad number.

I am really confused, do we not still hold the registration of the players when they went out on loans? How did saliba count as CT for arsenal?
I believe they changed the rules slightly since Saliba. Because u18s from Europe cant sign for UK club now. Relates to Brexit, I think. (CF Bergvall, Yang, Vuskovic).

So it must affect timing somewhat. Probably also why we have looked at (and signed) some very young players from Europe, so get them in as soon as theyre 18 to get them on a pathway to HG and CT status

Cannot be club trained unless you are with your parent club for 3 years between 15 and 21. The parent club always holds the registration . Simples!….apparently.

Yeah, I agree. Hopefully the club know lol.
It’s Arsenal insider what does he know. He’s got them all as HG. 7 of them . Should be 5 x HG plus 2 CT, Saka and Martinelli. Martinelli signed at 18 from Brazil but stayed at the club, never went on loan . Saliba was away from 18-21 on loan.

5 x HG plus 2 CT wouldn't comply with UEFA rules.

You’re getting yourself confused. You can have 21 of which up to 17 can be foreign. The rest have to HG. You can have 21 HG if you want. If you want a full squad of 25 the other 4 places have to be filled with CT.
Not that hard is it.

Yep. and whether or not you "need" the full 25 depends on how strong your B-List is. By my reckoning I think we'll have the following potential B-List options next year?

Keepers - Gunter
Defenders - Dorrington
Midfielders - Devine, Donley, Abbott, Olusesi
Forwards - Moore, Scarlett, Lankshear, Ajayi

Obviously there's more in the U21 squad but I'm only thinking of ones who've had loans or been involved with our first team. I think all our other "senior" U21s would need to be registered in the senior squad next season as they fail the "2-years at the club" rule.

Would think quite a few of those would be on loan. More discussion than it’s worth on this club trained crap. I think it said it all when they didn’t bother with Max Robson last year when was over 21 club trained .
Just left him out of the squad.

But if that’s the case then Arsenal would have been at the limit with 17 non HG plus 6 HG (4 AT and 2 CT) with their 23 man squad , but for the knock out stages, they added another defender in their A squad signed in 2023, who can’t be HG. It’s on the UEFA site.

Not sure any of those are seen as potential starters and pretty much all of them will be available for loan.

So that potentially gives us a CL squad of 22 players, while playing two games a week and few easy fixtures.

Let’s hope we have better luck with injuries than last season.
