A lot of poor decision making in attacking areas from England.

Byfield was smooth though.

Our midfield didn’t really exist in the second half. It was all individual stuff.
Nice couple of pirouettes by Byfield . Starting to look a bit like that other bloke who played for us.

I still reckon Byfield would make a really handy DM, or even CM.

They all wanted to be the guy but forgot that they need each other.

The goal was a nice sequence but I'm struggling to remember anything else noteworthy.

To be expected when you bring the top talents used to being The Man at their clubs together. The maturity to sublimate their game in order to be an effective team isn't there yet.

most England youth teams dont play like that. this age group has an unusually high amount of 'wonderkids' which is stifling them. they've had this problem of not playing like a team at this age group for a couple of years now

yep, very much a heads down player
You can see the kid has all of the talent under the sun, he just has 'it'.
Infuriatingly he just struggles (maybe he will gain this with maturity) to seemingly trust those around him with the ball and thinks he either can, or needs to do it all himself.
There was a period of play that made me chuckle.
Dowman broke really well with the ball, glided past a number of players and LWB was the ball to play.
He chose to hang on to the ball and got dispossessed.
A short time later, LWB had the ball and travelled with the ball ignoring Dowmans run and lost possession.
I would usually have been critical, but this is the sort of thing that needs to happen to both to make them realise, as good as they are, they can't win games without their team mates.

Also,
Dowman is a lazy lazy bastard. Strolling around with absolutely no attempt to track back or close down.
There was one occasion when he tried too much, was dispossessed, and instead of trying to get back just stood there and then walked towards one of the defenders who had the ball.
Wasn't a fan of the keeper either. Made a couple of decent saves but seemed petrified every time the ball was passed back to him. He even gave it to their attackers a couple of times.

Braithwaite has a great left foot ping BTW

Nguoma or whatever he’s called was the same. Just set off dribbling till he lost it. These boys are built up so much, and paid so much that inevitably some will go to the wall.
Such a poor effort in the second half. If the coach doesn’t sort it out we can bin this tournament. Belgium were presumably the weakest team.

I actually thought he was our best player.
Some good dribbles and had the fullback on toast.
A few decent pullbacks too.

Belgium are decent on their day. Italy are the favourites in our group with us and the other two all pretty equal.

England wont win the tournament. We probably have the best players, but they mainly play for themselves and not the team.
Unfortunately the manager doesnt seem strong enough to change that

The academy lads' contributions to the campaign, by my count:

Moore: 229 minutes, 1 goal, 1 assist
Lankshear: 141 minutes, 1 goal
Scarlett: 26 minutes, 1 goal, 1 assist
Ajayi: 13 minutes, 1 goal
Olusesi: 6 minutes

For a total of 415 minutes, 4 goals, and 2 assists.
